Weapon part needs identifying

This is the most accurate replication of an episode VI force pike rasp that I've ever seen. I realise the guy who made it did it from scratch plastic, but one thing keeps bugging me, that it looks like some kind of motorcycle kick stand, or foot rest. Does it ring a bell with anyone else, or does anyone know what the Episode VI rasp was actually made of?

Cheers,

Adam

My guess would've been '20 wood triangles glued to a piece of pipe and painted gold.' Heh

yes, you're exactly right.

I was, however hoping to find the actual part usesd in the film, although since no really high res shots of the force pikes are available from the film, its hard to identify. No two fan-made pikes appear to be the same, when it comes to an EP6 rasp, nor am I even certain where they get their reference for this part, as all you can see from the film is a blur.

Mm. How large is the pipe at that point? Maybe 2"? If that's roughly correct, than the spikey part would be much too large to be a motorcycle kickstand..

Since I have no screen caps in front of me, and only have a vauge memory of said prop, I can't offer any guesses on said part, but if you can size it out it might make it a little easier to determine what it could, and equally important, could NOT be.

G'luck.

It looks like the top horizontal rail on some styles of security fencing or walls. Like a type of heavy duty barb to stop intruders. I think they might be called rota spikes or razor spikes.

Good luck with your search

Cheers Chris.

It only going to be around 12-15mm in dimater for the underlying pipe so no where near 2 inches across.

Here are two reference images. I believe at least the right one was shot by The Rear Admiral at MotM in 2002 or so.

To me, the spikes appear more likely to be galvanized steel than brass.

Edit: I did not notice the very tip in this pic before. I have recently been in a lot of lamp stores. The tip looks like a armature thread. Armature threads are either 10mm or 1/2" with a fine thread, and the nuts are usually smaller than normal metric threads. (were the force pikes built around lamp poles?)
If I am right, then the section just above the spikes would be 10 mm or 1/2" in diameter, or at least very close.

The whole thing from the cone shaped tip to the "teeth" looks like a milling cutter. The cone is used to mount it into the mill. The thread at the small end of the cone is used to pull the cutter into spindle of the mill. There's a spanner flat at the larger end of the cone to prevent the spindle and cutter from turning when changing the cutter. The teeth are arrange in a helical way to reduce vibrations during the milling process. From the shape of the teeth it could be a special cutter to create large diameter threads.

Cheers,
Stefan
