Your work on this is amazing and I will for sure try find you at STL Comic Con for a photo. You will probably the one surrounded by a mob of people. LOL Hopefully you finish everything you want in time.
Thanks EVERYONE for the support!! Nearly there! While starting to paint the wings was a huge mistake time-wise, it's ending up looking pretty cool. I wish I'd paid a little more attention to some natural hawk patterns, because I started to run on autopilot in the secondary feathers, which is making it look a bit to messy and homogenous.
I have yet to paint the fronts of the feathers, but I'll likely start that tonight. A view from the front:
I seriously doubt I will have time to paint the coverts and other small feathers before those go on, so they'll remain white for now.
Also, a note about how I made the feathers, which I'm not 100% sure I covered. I used some awesome reference images from the US Fish and Wildlife Service on their website, Feather Atlas. These I printed on a transparency and projected onto some sheets of packing paper I scavenged from work. From there I got a pattern to trace onto a white bedsheet, two layers of fabric per feather. Between these two sheets of fabric goes an 18-inch drinking straw, with the end cut to taper. Paint the interior of each piece of fabric with wallpaper paste and sandwich them together, with the drinking straw shaft inside.
Well guys... I'm fairly certain she finished in amazing fashion because Jason David Frank just posted a picture of her on Instagram!! The Green Ranger took a photo of Springsteel!!
Yep I was there, Best in Show winner. She got an amazing pop from the crowd when she came out with those wings. Some really good cosplay overall at StL CC.
Absolutely amazing! Wish I could have made it to StLCC, I was really excited to see the wings! On a side note, have you been tempted to caw/screech like a hawk with the gear on? It seems like a missed opportunity if you haven't done so yet
Yeah, I was laughing at that. I had a person ask why I would put myself through all the work of weaving the netting for the Shredder helmet after I left the stage.
