hey guys, if an ebayer says hes Andy Snapp, and send you a link and says he found something that is identical to yours and he is confused, don't fall for it, and login to the fake ebay site...

I've noticed me, as well as "tomg981" on ebay, also a member here, and other prop sellers are recieving the identical message, here is the exact content.

"Hello, my name is Andy Snapp. I am interested in your item. The problem is that I am a little confused because I've seen another item exactly like yours. Please take a look: http://3476577450/?www.ebay.com/UserId=&am...p;errmsg=8.html Please inform me of your last price."

link to auctions I've found so far, I know it is not allowed, but just want to get the word across. Just a heads up to you guys

thanks for the heads up, ive not heard of this one b4 :thumbsup

I've gotten one similar to this. I don't remember if it was from the same guy but one was saying how their church needed my item and he wanted to confirm (whatever) with me.

A link was included but it didn't look right so I logged into my eBay account and there was no message in my eBay Inbox so I just ignored the message.

I get crap loads of these sort of emails:

e.g.

I paid for the item but I have not received it yet.

Your item has been shipped and here is your tracking number.

How much is shipping to XX XXXXX.

Basically, don't respond unless it clearly mentions the item description and its one you are familiar with. Any doubts, right click the email and check the properties or options and look for the email headers. Scroll down to the return path and check its definitely going to ebay.

Offical messages from ebay always start with 'Dear "your ebay username" '

Fake messages have 'Dear Ebay member'. That's because the fakers don't have that info, but when you click on the link they provide and log in - Wham, they get access to your account.

Easy to spot really - If the message doesn't have your Ebay username in it, it's fake.

Same here, I reveice a lot of emails like this.. I can easy detect they are fake cauase they ALL goes to the NOT DESIRE inbox (I love the spam filter:p)... but is insane... we have to be VERY VERY VERY CAREFULL about this...

Thanks for the heads up ;)

Better be careful even if the message has your name in it... recently, I received a fake PayPal e-mail that began with "Dear (my name)". Never click the enclosed link without being 102% certain it's legit.

If you have it enabled (default) you should see the full link in detail when hoovering over it in the bottom of the Thunderbird or Outlook window (status).

Indeed never click it if it's not from the right domain. Usually it's some url with numbers only.

I always forward stuff like this to spoof@paypal.com or the proper address for eBay.

My last spoof email did indeed have my user name.

Don't use that criteria as the sole "tell" for these messages.

:)

I have gotten a few very real looking ebay spoof messages, I always skip them and login to ebay to check my messages. Spending a minute to do that may save you a ton of trouble.

Never reply through the links in the mails... simply open a browser window, log in to eBay, check your mail... and if the mail is legit, reply from within the eBay site. If the message is not in your inbox, then you know that it is a scam.

I repeat: NEVER REPLY TO THOSE MAILS from outside the eBay site inbox, even the legit ones. :thumbsup
