When I heard they were doing this I wasn't shocked in the least... more shocked that people are so riled up about it.
I guess I was just never into that story in the first place... HOWEVER... As long as they aren't trying to follow the book closely, just swapping out the genders, it could work.
To me it's a "What if?" movie, which I have no problem with. What if you put a group of girls in the island, have a girl for each male character, (so a female "Piggy" for example) and then say "WHAT IF these characters were GIRLS, how would the outcome have been different?"
That's interesting to me.
What if Superman crashed in Russia?
What if Bruce Wayne died in that alley and his father became Batman?
What if the kids stranded in Lord of the Flies were girls not boys?
People knee jerk at the "Oh it's a PC move!"... and it is... but it's also maybe more interesting than another Lord of the Flies starring a bunch of up and coming 14 year old Disney kids.
Oh well then you need Michelle Yeoh as well.

But as for this movie, there's nothing interesting about it. The girls, in reality, would cooperate. It is their nature to do so.

Girls do NOT always get along long term. They would have a slower build, but man...
Only going by personal experience, girls groups have more infighting than guy groups.
I think a girls group would be more organized but fall apart more viciously....

And I would find that interesting... to see them build a better functioning mini society... and then the infighting...
Totally capable... I mean where I live a gang of girls famously drowned another girl and the leader is currently in prison, refuses to apologize. Girls have it in them for sure.

Everybody;s ripping on the idea, but honestly if you were to genderbend any story I would think LotF would be the easiest. The story is about the savagery of society, so you could honestly place anyone as the characters and still be a good story if done faithfully. Boys, girls, sexy coeds, kittens, space aliens...
