War Machine Pep and Foam for 10 yr old son.

... anyways, I have 3 girls older than Al and he is my last and only son. He has alot of issues socially and his I.Q. is not helping him at school, Adults are the only ones who understand most of the things he says. Kids can be mean if your really, really smart. He is, and I feel pretty bad for him, I grew up the same way but without the tics and off-putting mannerisms. His classmates this year are already wanting to see him at the halloween party at his school this year so I am hoping that a real movie looking suit will blow away all there $14.99 onesies costumes from walmart and give him a boost in respect from some of the kids. Irony, I had to make all the weapons on the suit dettachable cause the school will not allow toy guns of any kind!

I finally registered here after lurking for some time just so that I could tell you I understand where you are coming from. I have a 10 year old that I am currently building a Halo Spartan costume for, for the exact same reasons. I made him a Tron Legacy costume last year and he was so happy. It makes all the work worth it. Great build and continue on being an awesome father.

Hi Guys!
These are some progress pics on the shoes, minigun, and back plate. I riggedt the minigun into the backplate and spent four days trying to figure out how you are supposed to support the position of the gun and also making it removable. Three diferent rigs later and what you see here is two broom handle a swiffer handle, a flag pole wall-mount and a lot of hot glue!. No paint or final finish on the parts yet but I like to see other peoples projects in the bare bones state so I can see how they solved their design problems.

It is a little difficult to see from the photos but it appears that the flat piece coming off the back of the minigun fits in a slot in the back plate? If that is the case and the fit is not tight you could add some velcro in the slot and on the flat piece to add the extra stability and keep it from coming out when your son moves. I like what you did with the shoes. Looking amazing.

Here It Is!!!!! I am one day from saying it is finished! I just have to fit the shoes to the shins and it finito

Hi Everybody,
Al and I got to take the suit out for a test flight in downtown Clearwater tonight and He was a big hit! here are some pics, Some of them are really blurry because of the camera phone. Mid way through the night the back plate and chain gun fell off the suit right onto the street but it only chipped a bit of the paint! I like small repairs. I was quite nervous about the outing but He did a great job and was very popular.

I can not believe how much this suit made women turn into fangirls! Al had no Idea what to do with the attention but I have a feeling that he will figure it all out in another couple years!.

hahaaa great build mate! so i take it your currently building yourself one also? :p

Yeah! Mine will be the Iron Man Mark 4, It is the best one in my eyes. One of my other kids, an 18 yr old daughter has requested a pink/pastel yellow lolita fusion iron man armor with metal bows up the back and thigh high metal boots and garters for her suit! It should look really cool if it is executed properly.

Is that on a mannequin? If so awesome. What did you make it from and is it in his room? Cause if so.. he must be pretty proud to have his own hall of armors in his room. lol

That could be the most awesome IM build EVER. My daughter isn't into pink or bows, but I bet she'd love seeing what you come up with! :):thumbsup

Thanks Indie!,
And Yes Graph the suit is on a maniquin of sorts. I took 2 crutches and took them apart warped them a bit then electrical taped them to a "T" shaped shelving brace for the shoulders. It worked pretty well cause I could adjust the height. He really does love the suit being in his room and he keeps asking me to let him use the Mini-gun so he can re-enact the shooting scene from predator like his own "Old Painless". That's one of the only scenes I've let Him watch from the film and he fell in LOVE with Jesse Venturas gun from watching the background features on how they built the gun for the movie. My 18 yr old is already almost done with her concept art on the Lolita Iron Maiden armor. When I begin that build I will start a thread on it and post some design pics here.

Lucky kid! You did a great job Zach. That's one bad*** War Machine. Wish my girls would want me to make them a pink iron man/war machine costume. LoL!

Quick question, when you say you put a gluecoat over the foam after assemby before painting. What exactly is this process. After destroying my pep'd IM arms and hands from not adding enough hardener to the fiberglass resin. I think foam is in my future. Just worried about the seams and paint. So is a gluecoat similar to plasti dip?

Thank you wookieefoot!
It looks like her fusion Iron maiden is going to need the red/gold color scheme to tye it into the iron man look so i am happy she went that direction. I knew the pink was gonna be hard to pull off right. On the glue coat...two things one, the glue was half and half water and "Wellbond" brand glue. it is an upgrade from elmers and is used in construction applications. it seals the rubber so the paint does'nt melt the foam, But two and more imortantly, I am going to use a 2 part EPOXY based resin from WEST MARINE on the next 2 foam suits. It will not melt the foam at all and is harder than steal. best part is the 6 hr set time. you can mix enough for the entire suit and still have time for a second coat before it tacks up. any q's PM me for my phone # it's easier than typing it all out each time!

Update on WM suit on ten year old boy. If any of you try a suit for a kid make sure that you reinforce any thinner areas on the armor because boys will find a way to crash test the heckfire out of a suit like this! For some reason I am having a hard time explaining to him that he is NOT ACTUALLY WAR MACHINE!

Super! In awe of your talent! So wish I had parents like you guys when I was growing up. I also got started in costuming for my son who is handicapped. He's just like me when it comes to dressing up and all of his friends love it. I always come up with creative ideas, but have a hard time fabricating them. Wish I had as much talent as you guys. But, I am learning, thanks to all of your generous help and patience! Thanks to all and can't wait to see more!
