Here We GO,
So I have been a Member of Atsromech.net for many years, I've had my R2's at many events that also included Wall-E's, from the popular builders of the little guy, I have built several R2's and loving the Wall-E, I decided to jump in. I have never been a fan of the Yahoo groups, not because of the members but because of the way the forum is layed out, Astromech.net is awesome a friendly build sight and easy to navigate, so I have built all my Droid through that sight, So wanting to build a Wall-E the only place to go for help is the Yahoo Wall-E builders group. Some help but just not enough interest for it to move to a different level, so I decided to go at it alone, which is turning out to be super satisfying, since everything I do regarding my Wall-E will be a complete scratch build. First In my opinion the builders groups Wall-E's are the wrong size, I have studied Tons of reference and keeping in mind that WALL-E IS A CARTOON, there are many reference pieces to go from for his size. First and for most is the Igloo cooler he is carrying around, that was my main size reference prop. So that is what I am going off of. To Start I am Building from the ground up, a Foundation is where you need to start not the head or Eyes, he needs to drive first.
So I did some research to get a solid, reliable Drive System, and found this Snow Blower Drive:

So Next step was to Cut down and customize the frame work to mount my NPC motors, these are the same motors I use on my R2s, so wanted to stick with a familiar motor. Also Drilled out a bunch of the main drive wheels to lose some weight.

Next was to design and 3-D Print a tread, I wanted to use the tread that came with the Snow Blower Drive system and make my Tread a cosmetic/functional tread, I did take the basic design from the Yahoo group but re designed it to fit my Wall-E, in all aspects, from there I mold it and Poured 66 Treads at 40 minutes each. they are designed to straddle my Snow blower tracks. I want my Wall-e to drive perfect so it needs to have a sturdy drive system. Treads poured and the mounted with screws through into the Molded treads. Wanted to say that I had to grind off the stock treads from the snow blower tracks.

Next is getting everything together, I have also used a custom roller blade wheel system for tension plus will be used as a mounting point for the cosmetic rims to get that Wall-E look.

I have then made a steel frame/base for Wall-E, that will support his Drives and upper body,

Next was to make Wall-E's wheels so I made Bucks for the wheels out of a combination of wood plexi half spheres, and resin.
Molded them and poured grey resin versions.

The large wheel is attached with rare earth magnets and the others are screwed on, so they are completely cosmetic and have nothing to do with the drive, they actually look really cool when they roll because they are not totally perfectly mounted so they move around a bit.

Test Drives, a few blown fuses, but a lot more resistance than my R2s but after some clean wiring etc, he runs super nice and no binds, and motor controller is warm but not super hot so I at this point am happy. I started in November 2013, and took 3 weeks off for the holidays so I will be back to it this week!!!!
here are a couple of videos!!!!

It always amaze me the skills on electronics from the people of this forum... Incredible work... will love to have your skills...

Hey there, I too am a member of the R2Builders (and Astromech, & Wall-E) I go buy the name James 'S' there.

I am curious where you got the snow blower drive from, and how much did it set you back for? I too am building a Wall-E, my body for Wall-E is in pepakura format to be fiberglassed.

Please let me know either in a post here or via PM, thanks. Awesome job so far!!!

James 'S'
