Walking Gonk Droid

This is G-O ... I've wanted an actual walking gonk forever, but building a bipedal robot seemed too challenging. One day I was inspired by a simple wind-up toy and figured I could simply scale up the inner mechanics of the toy to get a larger walking robot.

I build this droid over the course of 4 months. He was completely designed in Fusion 360 – to work out all the mechanics and geometries. But, he's build from a mix of Aluminum, Sintra, and 3D printed parts. He's controlled via wireless remote and can walk forward and back, and has his one word dialog – "GONK" – on an mp3 player that plays through an onboard speaker.

I've had a number of people ask for a build log. So I've posted a really detailed build log at my Valor Replica facebook page:

Also below is a link to a thingiverse page that has a TON of files to help if you would like to try to build one too. I've included the Fusion360 file of the entire robot, lots of views, Templates for the body and legs, and 3D stl files for all the 3D parts. I hope this helps get an army of walking monks out there. Any questions. Let me know. I'm happy to share.
