Hey guys, I finally finished my Dixon bike. Thanks to nstevic01 (Nathan) for the insight and motivation. This was a fun build although now the bike is running really rough. Wanting to put the baffles back in the exhaust but accidentally got rid of them. If anyone knows where I can get some aftermarket baffles for this exhaust I'd be grateful. I don't like how loud the bike is without them and I need to fix the jetting. I cheaped out on some of the parts (rear shocks, no engine paint or guards, etc.) and didn't get a 100% replica but I still enjoy how these bikes are set up.

Could you tell me what is the lenght of the rear shock please ? 340 or 360 mm eye to eye ? Did you get it on aliexpress ? I saw them for less than 100 box...

Could you share other pics please ? Could you show me how it is under your seat please, to see how you did with the relay and cdi, etc...

Hi everyone, I am just joining the community and I would like to share my recent experience in building a very much inspired Daryl's bike replica. My project was developed under cost & time drivers and my intention was not to achieve a full "post apocalypse" bike. Therefore I had to make some trade-off : no R6 fork (I kept the donor bike fork), no modification of the air intake. It took me about one month (excluding delivery time from various suppliers) to complete the project. Believe me or not, the most difficult parts to be procured were the grill and the big washers. Zombie blood for the XS650 Yamaha tank and fender was pretty easy to get, Daryl left behind several gallons for us.
I think I won't paint the engine; I will leave it as it is.
All the best to all those undertaking this kind of project.

Hello, yes the rear shocks I got on ebay they're 340 mm. They were about $80. I don't have the bike right now I'm getting some work done to it. When I get it back I'll send you more pics.

Comme toi je suis limité par le budget du coup j'ai choisi de conserver le train avant. Comment as tu fait pour le tube de fourche dorée? On dirait que tu as mis un tube par dessus... ça rend bien!
La marque de tes pneus c'est quoi? Moi j'ai opté pour les TKC80 de continental car les kenda sont introuvables en France...
Comment as tu fait pour fixer ta selle? J'ai la même que toi, sauf que je ne conserve pas la plaque ABS en dessous, je garde que la mousse et le cuir et je vais essayer de me faire mon propre fond de selle.
Là je suis en plein dans le faisceau électrique, c'est pas évident, surtout que c'est mon point faible. As tu fait sauter le contacteur de béquille? aussi tous les raccords aux différents capteurs (pression huile, point mort haut, etc...)

Out of respect for the other community members, I'm answering your questions in English,
You're right, I put a aluminium cover tube (ext diameter : 48mm) on the upper part of the for and I painted it.
TKC 80 Continental tyres are fitted on.
I decided not to make a metal seat pan, (refer to the attached pictures)
Regarding the wiring harness, the only modification I made was for the headlights and the Ignition Switch. I didn't change anything about contactors, switches wiring.

Hi everyone,

some more progress, the electric harness gave me a big PITA...







My sewing machine is out of order to make the bags, so I decided tu build something in order to hide temporary the hole in the frame.
It's made of metal sheet with perfored aluminium grill.

I'll try to start the engine soon.

I finally found a decent nighthawk to start my build. (In fact, it's almost to nice to cut up... All shiny and chromey... No damage whatsoever... Perhaps I should buy another one...)



Trying to get the other parts together, and I'm running into so issues. So if you could help out, that would be great. I'm tryin to find the right shocks. I know they are Progressive 970 Piggyback, but these seem to come in different sizes (I've seen 12'' and 13'' offered on sites.) Anybody know the correct size or parts number?

Also, finding R6 forks is proving difficult. Best source so far has been Ebay, but sourcing from the US means I can't look at them before buying. I'm willing to take a bit of a gamble, but am open to extra tips on what to look for to minimize the risk (So far, I ignored anything that wasn't straight, didn't look straight, had broken steering stops, or had aftermarket parts).

I have ordered the intakes from Seth at Sleeper Design. And obviously, I'm going to cut the exhaust. But this would mean changing the jets on the carbs. Has anybody used replacement baffles? Because I'm leaning towards some sort of baffles rather than just open pipes. If so, what jets are you using (and does the engine run well)?

Surely, more questions are coming. Thanks for any reply and the inspiration of all your builds!

Welcome to the club. Take a look at page 2 of this thread, https://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=260946&page=2, I put together a detailed parts list that gives you pretty much everything you need. The model for the Progressives, as well as which jet kit you need is on there. The open pipes on the 750 is actually not that loud. I know the shocks in bronze are discontinued. But being an optimist, I figured there'd be stockpiles of them waiting for me.. Not so. I seriously have to consider an alternative, wonder what the other latecomers did.

So far I'm considering either buying the black version and partially painting them (not my favorite option) or going with a different size shock (the 14.3'' seems available in bronze, but this will affect the geometry quite a bit, so not my favorite option either ;-)

If you're not overly concerned with screen accuracy, there are cheap Chinese shocks out there that would do in a pinch. There are a few people out there that comoletely rework these so they perform decently - not Progressive good, but much better than the stock shocks. Even with all the work done, they still cost less than 1/3rd of the progressives.

I would advice against the longer shocks. They really mess with your geometry, which is already altered due to the shorter front forks. Aside from that, there's also the aesthetics to consider - longer shocks would alter the profile of the bike to such an extend that cheap knock-offs may well be less noticeable.

Does anyone know what part number is proper for the progressive 970 shocks on the walking dead cb750? There are a few sets available in each size and I don’t want to get the wrong valving and spring rate.

What thickness and size holes are on the headlight backing plate? Some have said it is stainless but I fon’t think that is good to weld the side edge steel and washers to if they are a mild steel. A source would be great if anyone has purchased some that looks spot on.
