VM02 Vader helmet display - a WIP

First of all, big thanks to magpie9 for fixing me up with this great ANH helmet. It was nice to meet you and see your most impressive collection, what great stuff you have! Also thanks to Carsten for his advice.

So, this is a Vadermaker VM02 helmet from the late Graham Campbell. It's heritage is, IIRC, a 20th C faceplate and a GH dome. It's actually very similar in many ways to an SPFX helmet. It might be my imagination, but the VM seems a little sharper then that helmet and a tad larger too.

VM owners will know that one of the unique things about this bucket is the dome mounting system, which is magnetised. Very novel approach and it works great too.

The display is still a WIP, but I couldn't resist sharing a few pics:

I'm pondering whether to hand brush the gunmetal on the faceplate, or to leave it as the maker sent it out. Whilst my instincts tell me to handbrush, in the interests of posterity, I think I may leave the 'idealised' finished as it is.

The VM helmets don't seem to get a lot of 'airtime', so I hope you enjoy the pics! I'm certainly delighted to own this, particularly given it's history.

Regards

Al

Nice score Al, I have a vmo2 as well, they are really nice helmets, mine was one of the early ones, around no 5 I think so doesnt have the magnetic locking system, should turn into a really nice display

That last pic is terrific. It's great to see a VMO2 up close like that since there were not too many of these. I think if you want to repaint it I would document it first as it is, then make sure you are careful when removing the paint/repainting not to lose any of the detail in the casting leftover from the 20th C. You are right, it is sharper, although it could have been sharpened a tad.

I suppose I would leave it as is as a tribute to Graham....

The helmet looks stunning as it is but i would like to see the same hand brushed paint scheme to match the armour, that would be awesome :thumbsup

Here's an updated pic of the display. It still needs tweaked a bit but it's getting there, I think. I've left the VM02 paintwork as it is, for now.

It's on a temporary PVC stand until I finish the final display base:
