It was supposed to be spoiler tagged, guess my tag didn't work properly.
Although given that it is in the Sagas surely the time frame for spoiler alert has run out ...

Edit to add an apology though, I kind of grew up with these stories so it's easy for me to forget that they aren't known to most people. I really do apologise.

Oh bullsheet. If you had used, or attempted to use, a spoiler tag, and knowing what a MONUMENTAL SPOILER it was, you would've checked your post to make sure the spoiler tag was present.

I don't believe you. Apology not accepted! Thanks for ruining the show. :thumbsdown :thumbsdown

Mate seriously, I thought it had been used because I was worried someone would react like you have. My first time using the tag and I botched it. That's on me and you're right, something I should have checked.

Up to you if you believe me or not but the apology is real and I do feel bad that it has potentially ruined the show for you. Was far from my intention.

Ya know what, dude...that kind of COLOSSAL spoiler has NO FRACKING PLACE in this thread. Even if you had used Spoiler Tags. I mean, seriously, WTF?! This thread is FILLED with posts of people speculating EACH WEEK on what's gonna happen NEXT WEEK! By posting your spoiler, even in Spoiler Tags (which you did NOT!) opens the door for Solo4114 whom you addressed, or someone else, to comment on your spoiler, without using a spoiler tag themselves. Just keep your God damned spoilers to yourself! :thumbsdown :thumbsdown

And no more apologies. I don't think you INTENDED to ruin the show for anyone. Doesn't matter if that was your intention. Posting spoilers is the height of rudeness and inconsideration for others.

I have removed it in it's entirety then.

But I will make the point that it's history. It's like a Greek story, an era of English monarchy. It's a story that has been around for a very, very long time. As the accuracy of the show has been in discussion I felt it was fair game. Yes I failed epically on my spoiler tags and have tried to act like a grown up on the issue. But quite frankly this is the last response I will say on the matter and if you wish to take it further then you can take it to a mod.

Id like to forget what i saw....If its true,My day just got worse....................
Damn.....

I already did take it to a Mod. I did it immediately when I saw your post. (And I am *not* in the habit of reporting posts. Your's is probably the 3rd post I've reported in my 11 years on this site.)

And btw, the show takes all kinds of liberties with actual history, as several posters before you have pointed out--and pointed out, I might add, without spoiling the show. So for you to attempt to defend your spoiler by saying "it's history" is nothing more than a desperate attempt to avoid blame for your lack of consideration in posting such a major spoiler.

If the spoiler is about Ragnar's ultimate fate...then yeah, I knew about that. It's well known and easily discovered by rockin' a wiki on Ragnar.

But as has been discussed, given how completely they throw history to the wind, who the hell knows what's gonna happen? I mean, for example, we all know how the story of Sparatacus ends, but on the show (and I haven't seen the last season so DO NOT TELL ME THE OUTCOME) I figure it's entirely possible that he simply escapes on his own and isn't killed by the Romans like everyone else.

Anyway, I wouldn't be too sure what happens to Ragnar, simply because the "history" channel doesn't seem too concerned with actual history. If Ragnar's story is interesting to audiences and they want to take it in that direction, they'll probably make him the Holy Roman Emperor for pete's sake!

Yeah, not trusting the History Channel to get it right (and how sad is that...) I read up on Ragnar elsewhere after the first episode, so I suspect I know what got posted earlier.

I'm of the opinion that if it's history, it's not a spoiler.

I read up on it as well, so no biggie. But, some people want the element of surprise, regardless.

In general, I'd agree, although other historical shows have played with historical fact, having characters survive or be killed in ways that are disputed (e.g. who killed Juan Borgia).

I think, at this point, it's clear that the actual history is irrelevant and will easily be sacrificed on the altar of "Our story is more appealing to audiences." So, Ragnar could sail to China, unite all of Scandanavia under his rule, or become the first Viking to set foot on the moon, for all we know.

When you're fudging facts to the tune of almost 100 years off, purely to create dramatic tension, and when you're completely tossing out historical record in favor of establishing traditional good-guy/bad-guy animosity, it's anyone's guess where the story will go.

I mean, at this point The Tudors or The Borgias (or Borgia, even) are probably more accurate, so don't necessarily sweat historical fact here.

Well, that kind of gets back to my point about matters relating to historical accuracy. Does the fact that it's not common knowledge -- yet still historical fact -- somehow make it (A) wrong to note the fact, or (B) to deviate from those facts when we get to that point in the story?

Nobody seemed to bat an eye when the historical fact of the timing of the first Lindisfarne raid occurred, as mixed in with King Aella's reign AND Ragnar Lothbrok being a young man with one adolescent son (instead of an older man with at least three grown sons).

I guess my point is that the audience's ignorance of historical fact is (A) no excuse for poorly done changes (like being off by 100 years), and (B) no excuse for the sense of "spoilers."

That said, if (A) above holds true and the History Channel is counting on the ignorance of its audience to let it "fudge" or otherwise totally botch the actual history, then it may not end up even being a spoiler! :) Hey, in the History Channel version, maybe Ragnar lived to a ripe old age and actually consulted with Led Zeppelin on their writing of The Immigrant Song.
