Vigo the Carpatian

I tried it again... If I take the last picture on this site, it tell me "not useful" for canvas or posters. If I use the vigothecapatian image it is useful up to 80x60 cm (metric system) for canvas...If I choose poster, it is possible up to 200x150 cm, quality is ok, but will get better on 140x105 cm... Bigger will get more bad...

The problem is, I dont know how it will look on this size...

I'm guessing the guy at the printshop resized it up to 5x8 feet, screamed at the horrible lego block looking mess, and then set to work with a vengeance.

Now, I'm no PS wizard, but I'd guess that there would be some softening going on in there somewhere, as well as some programs having specialised rendering outputs to produce the best image possible.

Might be better to take in whichever file you think will work best to a shop where you can talk one on one with someone rather than a site.

10 feet away, no flash . . .

Hope you guys like!

All I have to say is "WOW". This is so cool now. I like how it turned out on the canvas. I'm really looking forward to one now.

COming home from dinner tonight, seeeing it in the garage was a really great moment . . .I hope others will get to have it too.

Here's better pics without all that sunlight kicking of the mild gloss of the canvas.

NO flash, from about 7 feet. you can really see the dark tones.

Light flash, same disrance, this shows the richness of the colors.

This is as close as I could get without blurring. It's still pretty blurry, but you're still getting solid lines and details.

I'm pretty impressed, that once you get close, at maybe five or six inches, the soft lines show zero blocks or image problems. The soft lines up close look like soft, classic paint lines.
I think once someone puts some brushstrokes on it, and paints on a thing coat of slear resin to make cracks . . .you'll have people doing double takes.

So, which image should we use?!

Don't go 'round altering valuable art Dr. AZspidey... go... yes, I think; go... the joyfulness is over!

Well your not gonna get a green card with that attitude pal...:lol

BTW if it's on canvas...and 5x7 or whatever...I love this plan...I'm excited to be a part of it.

cool stuff, dudes! i've been gathering loads and loads of reference material on the original vigo painting for years. i'm about to move into a place with huge ceilings, so my full-size viggy replica has moved to the top of my projects list. i was on the west coast this week... i pondered hopping in a car and buzzing over to ILM with a DSLR in tow.

i think the actual painting is quite a bit taller than 7', though... anyone care to sneak a tape measure into ILM? :)

This has turned out to be QUITE the impressive thread. You have all done a wonderful job and now make me want to print the sucker up. I don't know if I can do 8' tall with the equipment at work.

thank you all for your great work and keeping it all free. THAT is what this forum should be about.:thumbsup

I've got no clue where I'd put one of these, but ******mit I WANT one!

Well, is someone working on a better photoshop version? If not, and thats the final results for now, I will try to print it next month. Just a test...

5x7 ft. ist exactly the size I can print it out, where its telling me, quality is still ok... I dont know if I should try it and print it on that size on cavas, or make a first try on paper in that size, but I think on canvas the quality is lower than on posters?

Poster is not as cool as canvas, but maybe I can something work out with a wooden frame to hold it on the wall. Or is canvas in that size so good, that you would say: Dont print it on poster, thats a waste of money, do it right now on canvas?!? anyone? Hotshot?

Maybe I talk to a local printer and ask him what this size would be... Other what will look perfect are sometimes up to 20MB...

posters are a good start for every movie-based room... framed they are a good eye-catch...

And if I glue this poster on a wood plate, wood frame I can scret it on the wall... Sure I dont want to frame it that way, I frame poster-formated pictures, but get a canvas, without knowing how it will look...???

Canvay the biggest I can print is 160 x 120 cm, on poster I can print it over 200 x 150 cm... 160 centimetres is a big and good size, but 200 is bigger and better...

Love it , I have printed a few of mine out on a 13 x 19 printer to get the colors down and even at that size it looks bad azz..I would really like to get the price on this in canvas.

We kinda gotta stop tossing around the 5X7 size, as when scaled properly, Vigo's really 5x8ish . . .

I think if we can get a bit better resolution of AZ Spidey's, that's gonna be the way to go.

I popped in the DVD last night into a Blu-Ray to get a nice clean picture, and I'm pretty convinced that AZSpidey's colors are one the money.

Now, the biggest question . . .is 5X8 too big? I know this thing took up some considerable room in the garage . . .

Maybe I could do a run of one or two different sizes?

Oh, and I finished crunching the numbers . . .no matter which image we'd use, I can do these in 5X8 on canvas, rolled and tubed, shipped for 160.00 even. Pretty much an at cost price.

Something else I'd like to see is a New York Musuem of Art promo poster for their 'New Romantic Exibition." I think that's be really cool.

I should also note that I did some lights tests on the canvas to make it look like a painting . . .they were pretty succesful.

If I do a run, I'll be sure to do a tutorial on how to age this thing up.
