Vigo the Carpatian

Mr Bean has a tutorial on how to make posters look like oil paintings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWftiL-XEfs&feature=related
I dont know if it would work but seem plausible..

I think you get double points for that!! You not only nailed the painting 'tutorial' . .but got the other 'art director' Peter Mcnicol movie!!:lol:lol

Nate, 5 feet across is as big as I can go . . .according to my new printer buddy, there are bigger printers out there . . .most on the east coast.

How about a photo of you in front of your Vigo painting Hotshot, so we can get a sense of scale?

cool stuff, dudes! i've been gathering loads and loads of reference material on the original vigo painting for years. i'm about to move into a place with huge ceilings, so my full-size viggy replica has moved to the top of my projects list. i was on the west coast this week... i pondered hopping in a car and buzzing over to ILM with a DSLR in tow.

i think the actual painting is quite a bit taller than 7', though... anyone care to sneak a tape measure into ILM? :)

Once I get home, with my new camera, I'll post up some new pics . . .I'm finally fed up with the camera I've been using all these years!

Oh, and I finished crunching the numbers . . .no matter which image we'd use, I can do these in 5X8 on canvas, rolled and tubed, shipped for 160.00 even. Pretty much an at cost price.

For that price on canvas it's a stellar deal.

Everyone else is looking for around $350 for that size.

Any chance of a really good closeup picture of the print? I'd just like to see better detail before I commit.

I got my dvd packed away, Did the one in the movie have a frame or was it just on a woodenframe. If that makes any sense....

Nope, no frame. Brought straight up from the basement.
Funny thing was, the Blu-Ray cleaned it up enough that you could see the painting's brush strokes, but in the face area . . .it was completely flat . . .hmmmm ;)

I'm glad people are responding to the interest thread, and are pleased with the price. I think the spirit of the thread warrants and at cost run . . .in any size!!!

I'll work on better pics tonight when I get home. I'm excited to get a new camera!! (i love working in a Radio Shack!)

I should note, alot of people are asking me for the 'high definition file' that I'm using . . .I'm not using anything that hasn't already been provided here in the thread.

Send it along . .I think your's looks the best! I love the vlaue changes going on it that one.
The file I tested with was done with Moffmann's post above my 'stunning' reply.

Thanks again to everyone for all their work! I hope alot fo you are finding printers that wanted to get it done themselves!!

Spidey, could you send that to me as well? I don't have the money to get in on the run now, but someday I'd like to give this a go...

How did I miss this thread. That's awesome!!! Is the large pic in the thread and the one linked to the final size, or is there a larger one? Don't think I can afford the print right now but I can certainly get one printed off and then do a faux oil finish on it. I must have one for my studio.:D

Here's some MUCH better pics I've taken with my new little Nikon L20. I love this camera! I'm going to go have batting pratice with my old one.
Enjoy!

Standing at Five feet

Still getting light reflection for the wrinkles on the 'legs' of the painting. Didn't want to strech it too far.

Three feet away,
**I was holding this by hand . . .best I could get

This will define how smoothly detailed the print is. No jpeging!!

This is a zoomed in 3 feet

Looking really good!!

I may have access to a pretty high quality image of Vigo, I'll see if I can get a hold of it in the next few days. I may also be able to get a hq image of the end painting of the 4 Ghostbusters with the baby (it's a Fettuccine...) I'll let you guys know!

Can we get a photo of you standing in front of it? Seeing photos is cool but seeing a person standing in front of it really lets the scale of it pop and impress :)

Looking FANTASTIC so far, i agree spidey did a great with the color values and great job cleaning it up. I vote Spidey's be the one unless we get a killer HI RES shot.
