Veronica Mars (Movie, Season 4...)

Project Update #85: 6 Days To Go... and just one hour until our worldwide premiere.

"Gang,

In just over an hour, Veronica Mars will have its "official" worldwide premiere at SXSW, here in Austin, for a theater full of film lovers who might -- or might not -- be Veronica fans, and I'll get to see how a film festival crowd reacts to what we've made. It should be fun, and I think it will tell me something about how the general public might respond to the movie.

You might think that premiering my first film at a major film festival, in my hometown, would be the most exciting thing happening to me today. But it won't be. It's going to be amazing and a heady experience, sure, but the most exciting part of my day will be just a few hours later, when we hold the first of our Kickstarter premiere events. The cast and I will take our seats and watch the movie again, but this time in a theater full of our backers -- fans so committed to Veronica that they made this movie possible. For the first time, I'll get to see the movie with some of you.

When we were making final plans for tonight's event, the theater staff -- knowing that I'll just have seen the movie at SXSW -- offered me a private room where I could relax, in case I didn't want to see the movie twice in a row. Here's the thing: I know the movie by heart. I've watched every scene in the movie hundreds of times.

But for me, tonight's screening isn't about seeing the movie for the umpteenth time: it's my first chance to watch you watching the movie and to experience it with the people we made it for. I've been anticipating this day for a long, long time.

It's time for me to get ready for the SXSW screening, but before I do, I'll say it again:

Thank you for giving us the chance to make this movie, and for making today possible.

We can't wait to meet some of you tonight, and over the coming week.

Rob "

Next week... looking forward to it. Wanted to do a rewatch of the series, but not sure that's going to happen in time.

Found my name in the thanks.

I'm a bit ticked that you have to use Flixster to access the digital version you receive as a Kickstarter supporter of this. I guess there is a download to watch later feature on Flixster - but, it's not an app I use at all and not something I'm really keen on adding. The Kickstarter page has comments from a whole lot of people upset by the Flixster choice.

Very frustrating especially seeing as it is being released on iTunes and other sources today as well.

Yeah, I was little surprised when they mentioned we have to use Flixster. I am hoping there is option to download the movie rather than mere streaming. And judging by the comments, lot of people are frustrated with this choice.

Welp, Checked it out last night, and gotta say, Liked it A LOT.

No complaints on my end, and now that I did my part and supported, I'm downloading the flick. My daughter will probably have watched it 30 times by the time her spring break is over.

All in all, this was quite frankly the best handled kickstarter I've ever had the pleasure of being included in. By the run's end, for my tiny donation, I had stickers, a tshirt, downloadable movie the day of release, a PDF of the script, behind-the-scenes updates that came in so regularly that there was 89 of them over a year. I truly felt included and part of the experience. AND I'm getting it on DVD once it releases officially. I wish other kickstarters had HALF the amount of communication, enthusiasm, and the ability to deliver that the VM kickstarter did.

I missed out on the kickstarter, but did my part and paid for a ticket... I am usually against crowd funding big studio movies... but I'll let this slide because it's the only way it would have happened.
