Hey eveyone. Just checking to see if anyone had any pics or information about Van Pelt's rifle from the movie Jumanji. I looks like a hybrid between a winchester and a trombone. I thought it was pretty cool. Thought I'd just ask.
Imfdb.org claims it was a "A Winchester Model 1901 shotgun, but with the following modifications: custom stock, false box magazine added in front of the action (the 1901 has a tubular magazine), and a very odd rear sight. It is sold off by Van Pelt after running out of ammunition (That was last made in 1903) for it after which he trades it in for a USAS-12." http://www.imfdb.org/index.php?title=Jumanji
The theme for Ironfest this year is time travel so I'm putting together a Steampunk outfit as an alternate day costume (the Trek fan club I'm a member of might be going as a group!). If I'm gonna build a gun I might as well go for the one that pretty much started the meme! I've got 'til late April so I should be able to put some work into it although this is my first prop build!
The least I can do is try to put together a graphic of the screen prop which seems to be missing from the net.
I grabbed the best side photo I could and traced it in Inkscape - first time I've used it but I have years of experience in CAD so I found it pretty intuitive.
If someone could give me some key dimensions I can scale this off at I'll update it and add the other details like the amended stock, magazine and swivels.
I've done a little woodwork, how would you suggest I do it? Is there a step-by-step to a similar project on the forums? PVC tube for the barrel? It'd weigh a tone with a steel barrel! I remember struggling with a .303 Lee Enfield as a 15 year old cadet!, I might need to start working out! LOL!
