Value of replica props

Does anybody know of any reference for determining the value of replica props? IE (Master Replicas, Sideshow) and what not. Eventually will be thinning out some stuff. Just want a reference for starting point as to pricing right now.

It is all subjective. You can only get what people are willing to pay. You will see limited replicas go up in value, then plummet. You just never know. The best way to see the current trend is to frequent EBay and look at the completed auctions... Not the current. You want to see what they have sold for recently to see the current demand. Right before selling an item, go look back over the past 30 days or so and get an idea of the selling value you can put on it.

I absolutely second that recent sales is your best and only bet.

Also, try to remember what you paid. Replicas tend not to LOSE value - the typical bottom price is the price you paid (unless you are in a real hurry). "I'd like to get what I paid" is usually the Junkyard mantra. HOWEVER, things CAN lose value when the "next best thing" comes along. Example: the market for resin Iona shells plummeting after the Matty PKE meter was released.

Licensed replicas lose value all the time. For the majority of the time you are lucky if you get what you paid for it, but mostly you'll take a loss. In the rare occasions you may turn a profit, but it is really rare with licensed replicas, unless the product quantity of the particular product is very limited.

Depends on what it is.

I can tell you the MR TOS set as well as the MIB Neuralizer hasnot only held their value, but increased substantially

Ya, was going to say, I have found licensed items are the ones that tend to go up dramatically, even moreso than community made pieces. It also can swing if people thirst an item due to a license revival (like a new James Bond movie out will tend to excite the community for Bond items, etc.)

Let´s wait what will happen over the next time.

A long time that was the only game in town if you wanted the old E in 1/350 - esspecially if you had the kits of Movie E and the Archer E already and needed it to complete the hattrick. Now people can buy a kit of the old E, too - and modify it to their preferred version and/or standards. Even build it with a higher quality.

Sure, some will always pay for a ready to run display piece, or a signature etc. - but for the general/average price developement we can only guess atm. I assume prices will go noticeable down, first a little bit, than some people gonna start selling theirs to minimize the loss due falling prices. That way more will be available, additional to the new kit, which will bring prices down even more.

Just my guess, but i wouldn´t wonder.

Again it depends on what the items are.

Ships are a whole different niche market

Aye, but under the line it will always be a question of "what will come out for what price in the future". Will something rise with the same quality/accuracy for a lower price, or something better for the same or a much better for a higher price - people will jump on the new toy, made to the actual stand of information.

There were some "not really cheap" things made in the past (for example lightsabers), that are today not up to date anymore. Better stuff is available now, often for lower prices. So noone will pay much for the old and in their time expensive parts, often you need luck to find a sentimantal person to buy it for a cheap price.

Not really

As I posted in an earlier post the MR neuralizer goes for well over it's retail price, and still does even with the FE one that is now out.

The FE is also more expensive than the MR one was.

:lol Once again it depends on what the item is :lol

Yeah I have been scratching my head over that one.

How long did it take for those to sell out at FE over a year? :lol

Glad to see I'm not the only one scratching his head :lol

Really weird that.

It took forever for them to sell out, and suddenly, its cheaper to buy a hen's tooth :lol

Which puzzles me because the MR piece had many quality issues. My personal unit belongs to a friend now and it not only doesn't work but the finish has degraded significantly.

My thought would be that the MR would instantly lose value when the FE became available. There are, after all, over fifteen improvements to the design and function with the FE version.

BTW Alan, love the Raul Julia avatar.

I recall the same situation with MR Kermit photo puppets. They came out and nobody bought them because of the price tag of a little over $400. The overstock eventually made its way to eBay and you could snag one for $200. Suddenly collectors snatched them up.

Then cut to three years or so later and they were fetching $900-1200 on eBay. (granted this was about the time of the new Muppet movie release)
But.... Today they are fetching $400-600.

Who knows if they will plummet more or if there will be a spike. You just never know.

Sometimes one or two people come along with really competitive prices and that shifts the market expectation. I know a couple MR Aliens motion trackers sold for about the original price a while back. When my friend was in the market for one it lowered his expectation for what to pay.
