Vader Versus Obi Wan (New ANH Version)

Eh.

The editing and compositing with the original material is technically neat.

But I very much dislike the imposition of modern filmmaking techniques, cuts, angles, etc. on the scene. It just doesn't fit with everything else that was there.

And I agree that if you're talented enough to pull something like that together...go make your own damn stories!

Well I am surprised by the reaction but to each his own.

My .5 Cent (Again I thought the original was fine)

This is one of the best lightsaber fights ever. Totally new and original. The ferocity of Vader and his hatred for Obi Wan is much more in line with the prequels. Although only in his sixties Obi has been out of action and way passed his prime. Vader has been hunting and killing Jedi for 20 years, mastering his skills, and with his mechanical pieces his age is not as much of a factor.

This is only the second time we see (in the films) Vader being Vader. The first is in Rogue one.

Watch it again. It's pure rage and just trying to kill Obi Wan. He is not playing, dancing, doesn't care how Obi dies. He throws him physically against a wall. Punches him. It was awesome. Obi Wan is just trying to survive.

The actor in the suit does a great job as well. Most Vader fan films have Vader moving horribly as the suit is very hard to move in. This film shows why the universe is terrified of Vader. You really feel for Obi Wan as well because you know he is outmatched. The original they were equal and it seemed to be a stalemate until the sacrifice.

The battle itself was the most real I have seen in the films as far as sword play. Each trying to kill and defend at the same time. No obvious choreography like the prequels. No playing games and toying with the opponent like in Empire, and no nonsense where Luke could ever beat Vader like in Jedi (ROTJ is my favorite BTW). This fight was much more real. I also feel it had a lot of original elements, etc.

I don't get the unrelated criticism that these guys should go do something original. By that logic every fan film should not exist as it is not original. It takes place in Star Wars world.

Anyway as I said, to each his own. I thought it was awesome. Flaws, sure but, awesome. Better than anything we have gotten since 1983 IMO.

Peace.

BTW no need to attack me or insult me. Just stating my opinion and not understanding some of the criticism.

I don't see anyone attacking or insulting you at all. Some people like it and others don't. Most of the criticism here has been levelheaded, in my opinion.

Its pretty neat. Needs far less talking imo, and definitely lose that line at the end. Silence just speaks so much louder than words in this fight to me

I'm personally not a fan of fan films. But I can acknowledge talent and whoever did this is talented!

I wonder if they've done an original lightsaber battle with other characters, I haven't watched it but from the critiques it sounds like they are technically proficient.

In your opinion,..

Vader IS Vader, in my opinion, in Star Wars & especially ESB,....how he behaves at the end of Rogue One is pretty cool & menacing, but I don't think there is any need to replace his or Obi-Wan's fight scene with something more hyper.

I think the new effects look cheap & cheesy & don't fit with the original movie, a novelty to see, but not a replacement for the original artwork

A syllogism:

Most people love the original trilogy and don't want it changed.
Many people seem to want the original and prequel trilogies to match up cohesively.
Ergo, someone should do a fan edit of the prequel trilogies SLOWING DOWN the fights, steadying the camera work, etc.

:p

I think people tend to forget that TPM and ATOC were pretty on par with ESB and ROTJ. The only differences is the addition of extra spins and what all. Really the change came after they dumped the motorized stunt "FX" sabers. It's ROTS with its carbon fiber blades that took the speed up a notch.

Watch the fight with Maul again;)

Sorry, what I meant was since posting my long opinion of the film a few posts up. Not for posting the original link. I was doing a pre-emptive thing. I was very reluctant as I don't post much. One of the many reasons I don't post much is the obvious problem that it's harder to understand typing than talking.

It's all good. I love the original but I love this as well. I love all lightsaber fights, except TFA and the film that I will not mention that does not even have a saber fight.

Much better version of the Mona Lisa. :)

I enjoyed it. The imagination & talent involved in its creation is immense. It's a little over the top in a few places, but I do love seeing a badass Vader kicking butt. Would I make it "cannon", & part of the movie? Probably not. I loved how the real one was actually done. We knew there was more of a fight than what we saw, but as was done back in the day, it was left to our imagination.

Count me in with the "not an improvement" crowd. Mildly interesting, but not better (with regards to context and execution) than the original footage.

Vader was on fire and didn't care. Now that's some rage. Plus the sabers in the lenses, saber in walls, the saber throw and attempted beheading. What's not to love. Okay,..okay,.. it was no Marry Leia Poppins flying through space but that is hard to top. Granted Vader was also not throwing a child like temper tantrum. Another Star Wars highlight, but it was pretty awesome.
