Vader Versus Obi Wan (New ANH Version)

If only Star Wars fans would put all that talent into making their own original stories. Impressive for the talent involved. As for the scene it's more revisionist fan service. I don't get people's obsession with wanting to "jazz up" this duel much less make fan edits of the original trilogy. The theatrical cuts were just fine how they were. This duel as originally shot was perfectly for the tone it was conveying. Simple in terms of choreography but it was effective in setting that tension between the characters in a very subtle way. This version while it looks cool by modern audience expectations tonally looks so out of place with the locked and often wide camera shots. The extreme close ups and camera moves look totally out of place with the original footage.

Again it looks cool in and of itself and shows a lot of talent and creativity but why not use those efforts to write your own story and come with your own film?

Just when I thought I’ve seen it all there’s a video with Darth Vader headbutting someone...
As others said there’s obviously a ton of work and talent in this but it falls into the “moar epiker lazorz and epiknes” category for me.

Over all, it's an interesting take, that was pretty well done.

My "plot" complaints are only that Vader was more animated and mobile than I prefer. I prefer a more pulled in fighting style for Vader, with strong, confident movements. This had more flurishing and reach than I like. And the overlaying of the dialog from the mustufar fight wouldn't be appropriate to have in episode IV.

I enjoyed the concept of obi-wan still being an able, quick, and mobile fighter, though some of his more extravagant movements could be cut down.

My "technical" complaints are just that it's clearly a bit janky. The cgi mixed with original footage stands out surprisingly hard, and the different voice samples used seemed inconsistent sounding and fairly unnatural in the flow of the fight as presented.

That said, it was a lot of fun to watch. I especially enjoyed the reflection of the sabers in Vader's eye lenses.

There was a lot of work put into this first sure! But mixing it with original ANH footage I feel it contrasts way to much then anything else. I would have preferred just showing the new material between Ben and Vader instead of integrating it into the film.

The costumes while not totally correct we're decent for the most part. I feel costumes and especially Vader are never done right in fan films. But this time they were decent.

The visual effects were very good.

And it was fun to watch.

Looks like they mixed and matched Vader's armor. The chest box and belt seems to be from ROTS, while the helmet from R1?

I loved the old duel. It wasn't a swordfight as much as it was an old west showdown between a bad guy and a U.S. marshall. The entire purpose was to hold off engaging until Luke was in place.

Luke entered this journey by hearing that Kenobi was "Our only hope"

Watching Kenobi die by the hand of vader enabled him to become "A new Hope"

Luke was a carefully planted secret weapon they needed to grow into the only real chance they had at eliminating the empire.
