Vader Saber question

Hi people,

I have a Heiland flash unit that I have long wanted to convert into a Vader saber, and while I know Heilands are not the corrct unit (but rather MMP, afaik) I have a problem that needs adressing.

Back when I got the flash, I was inexperienced, impatiant and and all, and I didn't care too much about accuracy. In my attempts to add a D-ring to the base of the cylinder, I badly mutilated the endcap. Now, in my renewed attempt to make this baby look good, I'm wondering if there are ways to acquire an MMP style endcap (they differ somewhat from the Heiland ones) and if yes, if it would fit on the Heiland.
If I remember correctly, the Heiland endcap is hexa- or octagonal, whereas the correct MMP endcap is round and groved all around.

The other thing I'm missing is a decent clamp assembly, but that's less of a worry, as I know they are available on the net.

Without going into too much detail, the Heiland Synchronar is a decent platform for a Vader saber, the only let down is the fancy lettering HEILAND SYNCHRONAR on the tube. However, the shroud on top is wrong, (it has a step-down in the top of the shroud, whereas the MPP is a single tube.) Vader's saber doesn't have a D-Ring on the base. It has a D-ring on the shroud just behind the first knurled thumb screw. Vader wears the saber emitter-up on his belt.

For better pics and info, try RebelScum or even Googling for pics of the MR replica.

John at Blast-Tech does good convesion kits as far as i remember...

Good luck!

Yeah, Bast-tech would be my first stop to get the parts I need, but as I said, I am in dire need of an actual endcap for the tube. To be honest, when I got the unit (about 8 years ago or so, when I was still young and VERY stupid) I tried to fix a piece of sheet metal (to add a D-ring) to the endcap by putting 2 simple nails into it, instead of taking my time and trying to figure out how rivets work. So, my endcap has 2 nasty holes in it, and, as I said, the Synchronar has a sort of polygonal endcap, whereas the MMP is plain round with groves...

You might be able to find someone using a Heiland or MPP replica for their Fett blaster. They wouldn't need the endcap so they might have a spare.
There's no guarantee the threading is the same on a replica though.
IIRC a real MPP endcap will not thread onto a Larbel MPP.

Well thanks a lot for that useful hint! But would a real MMP endcap thread onto a real Heiland flash? That's the big question now.
Guess I'll have to ask around a bit over at the Fett costume boards...

Other than that, I'm trying to figure out a way to scratch-build something that looks like the needed endcap, but I wouldn't know how to get it chromed...

But would a real MMP endcap thread onto a real Heiland flash?
No, it won't. Threading is different on the MPP's.
Though I might have a spare round Heiland endcap around somewhere - one that is similar to the MPP with the "coin edge". Not at home right now, but in case you're interested, I could check after New Year's.

You mean the Heiland endcaps came in different versions? If so (meaning, if you do indeed have one lying around) I would be VERY interested in it. Take your time, I'm in no real hurry. I'm already excited and happy as it is, now, knowing these things...

Cheers!

Yes, apart from the hexagonal endcap, there are at least two coin edged versions - one with thicker, other with a thinner edge. Not sure if they came with the Synchronar - they could be Heiland 3-Cell endcaps - but they do fit. I got one to my Synchronar Vader project.
Look further down on the RACprops page where you found the above pic - there's a pic of the thicker-edged round endcap.
Will look through my part box and let you know if I find it. :)

Yeah, I just checked that out, you're right!
