This auction just closed out on ebay. The helmet is not from mine but looks pretty good I must say!

I have serious reservations about this helmet being an authentic direct from studio mold casting.
Without seeing better, more close up photos, that's a huge $6000 risk.
Even in those far shots, there are things on the facemask that are different than true studio casts that I've seen.

Me, I keep vacillating on that. At one point I go "wrong" and then change my mind. Folks have been emailing me, wondering if this is me and I have nothing to offer!

Still, it looks as if we'll see some castings of this thing out there. Will be very cool to see what it looks like later on...

Yes I was eye'n that bad boy off too.. I had 2k on it, but it was into the 6's before I had a chance to bid.

Anyone know who the winner was? A cast would be great!

Probably because they are private bidders and have their feedback views limited to Sellers only.

Ebay does that on items that have bids of $1000 or more to protect the bidders from spam scammers with "similar items".

Oh BTW, count me in on one of those who had no clue about this auction.:unsure

If it turns out to be the "real deal", hopefully repops will make it to the market.

Well I was a losing bidder and even though the pics weren't great I was convinced on the dome / helmet part. The faceplate I wasn't sure of but the sharpness of the lines and shape convinced me of the dome.

There are a few really good accurate ANH faceplates out there the TM,VP,TD etc but the thing that eludes me is a really good ANH dome.

Darthjones do a run and put us all out our misery we are all fed up upgrading and upgrading :lol Even if it is just a dome run.

Anyway congratulations to the winner I really hope it turns out to be legit

Really? While the dome was definitely ANH style (not based on the widows peak), there really were some oddities in it's shape - though, it may be due to bad photographing. The dome was what I was less enthused about with the whole kit - it was interesting, no doubt about it. Never had any real doubts about the face...

Whoever the winner is... I hope this helmet won't go into hiding, but will be shown.

Hi Carsten,

I took into account the lens distortion and poor angles and really thought the lines where the upper cap tapers down looked the real deal. The sharpness of all the lines looked pretty good to me.

Only time will tell if it gets shown.

I think I know who bought but wouldn't like to say publicly as that is their private business. If it is who I think it is then I am hoping for a monster discussion at the Prop Den.

If I am wrong then hopefully whoever it is will discuss it anyway .

Yikes! I'm glad I decided to stick with my VP mask!
I contacted the seller while the auction was running and asked for larger versions of the small additional thumbnail pics they had added to the auction page. I didn't receive any kind of reply to the two questions that I asked. That doesn't sit well with me so I decided not to bid. I certainly wouldn't have bid that much on something unless the provenance was 100% and I would definitely have needed to see hi-res pics of the mask and dome from lots of angles.

I'm sure that detailed pics of this thing will not be shared with anyone unless they contributed to the purchase price.
