In the junkyard there is an esb chesbox for sale by dark shadow.
The upper black buttons, the lower gold buttons, the silver greeblies, and coinslots are all recasts of my pieces. They were all scratch built by me, I'd know them anywhere and I still have the masters.

This is EXACTLY why I don't share my stuff, or make the really cool stuff available.

Here is the box and his comments. The part where he states that he can make extra silver greeblies available is pretty damning to me. :angry

"I have a chest box for sale. It includes aluminum rods, working lighted coin slots oscillating circuit and straps. The box has been painted with acrylic enamel automotive paint so its extremely durable.
I can include extra silver greeblies if you want an empire version box.

$375 plus shipping OBO"

Not to start anything could he have got them second hand? or maybe they look alot like your sculpt? i was working on a set of more accurate sliver switches myself? so it is not entirely impossible he made some alot like yours. Even tho i will say his box dose look a bit like one of yours... but let the guy have his say befor the witch hunt begins.

No question about whether they are mine or not. I AM POSITIVE.

Just the greeblies I mentioned, not the box itself or the control rods.

If they were my originals, then how is it that he can offer more of the same silver buttons for someone to convert it into an esb?

Just a question: did he say in the post that he MADE that stuff? Because probably this is re-selling instead of re-casting... I'm just curious...

the proper way would have been to pm him and ask him, before posting in the public. Now its besmearching his name, because if your wrong, its going to make u look like a a@#. Unless of course otherwise. :confused

umm... he bought a kit which allowed him to make either version and decided to make the one with fewer parts? Now he has a completed chest box and a few extra pieces lying around?

I wouldn't have posted it if I wasn't positive.

It is not a re-selling.
If those were my original buttons pryed off of a box that I made, then how is it that he is able to provide ADDITIONAL ones.

Here is his quote from the junkyard post.

"I can include extra silver greeblies if you want an empire version box."

I never offered a box as a kit.

The two top black greeblies are specific to my ROTJ box. NOT THE ESB.
If they were directly pryed off one of my ROTJ boxes, there would not be any extra buttons.

I've considered the alternate explainations before calling this out.

I think Darkshadow should be able to answer firstly before these claims can be verified. I am curious though, if a member wanted to sell items that definitely were recasts of well known work such as yours Gino, why would they try to sell them on RPF knowing full well people would recognise the parts most of all you. Are you sure this could not be a mistake mate?

Hmmm...I'm surprised. DS seems like a pretty stand up guy during the times that I've dealt with him.....

I hope this isn't a case of "shoot first and ask questions later"....

If the ultimate goal of anybody making such parts is to reach 100% accuracy, then if 2 or 3 (or more) folks all independtly reached "the ultimate goal" wouldn't each individual result be theoretically identical?

I don't doubt you know your own stuff, Gino; just asking a semi-rhetoirical question. And I'm sure you built in "tells" that prove to you (and you only perhaps, because most times such "tells" are kept secret) that these are yours.

On the other hand, that's not really the greatest photograph (I can hardly see the black greeblies on either of my two LCDs), and being who you are, its possible (though perhaps not probable?) someone else scratch-built their own using yours as reference. I'm sure stranger things have happened.

If they thought they were cast off original and not scratch-built.

That would be a perfect reason to contact them privately first, wouldn't it?

If I'm not mistaken, it appears the thread title has been changed from:

SOMEONE RECAST MY CHESTBOX GREEBLIES

To:

DARKSHADOW RECAST MY CHESTBOX GREEBLIES

This, before the mentioned person has had an opportunity to provide his side of the story (unless PMs have been exchanged).

Gino, I believe it'd be accurate to state that no one here is challenging your right to defend your own work, but more so your tact.

Hey Gino,

Did you ever consider the fact that the extra greeblies which he is referring to (which are not pictured btw) may not be yours and may have come from another kit by a different maker.

Nowhere in his post does he state that he made the [silver greeblie] parts.

He may simply be re-selling one of your pieces. If he was casting these, why would only ONE be available? Why arent we seeing these all over eBay or in the JY?

I think your post is premature and possibly tortious. Have you even spoken with DS yet???

Poor form Gino. Poor form.

OSK

I Checked the JY post in question at 2:57 PM EST moments after the deletions. I came back here to see if DS had offered any explaination.

It's Gino's call to post such as he pleases but he also has to weather the fallout. I think the comments that have been made about his decision to do so are what would be reasonably anticipated. That doesn't mean it's open season on DS or Gino. :D

I would have preferred Gino contact the staff prior to posting this thread simply so we could have preserved the JY thread in it's entirety.
Fortunately it appears Gino did copy the orinal post in his comment to the JY thread, I have moved that thread to temporary storage. A forum wide moderator should be contacting DS shortly to request an explanation... until then everybody hold tight.
