a guy is selling a almost 30 inch wingspan of a bird of prey, can pick it up for 10 bucks off a modeling forum, its cheap, but will it be a pain in the ass being vacuum formed to put together? Opinions would be helpful. thnks :D

Got pics? The almost 30" wingspan makes me kinda suspicious. The Warp resin kit has a 27" wingspan and without accusing anyone I'd make sure it wasn't a recast first. Otherwise depending on how it looks and that it's only $10 I'd say go for it. However I cant see it being very detailed unless it comes with resin parts. Also at that size it sounds like it'll be quite a chore building the internal structure. For $10 though maybe you'll get lucky.

got it for 12 bucks, plus 5 to pick it up at i sold it store, so 17 bucks, figured what the heck. I had seen vacuum kits like from federation models in the past and what not on ebay, so for the price, i can add some detail to it, looks clean thou. ;)

Looks like a lot of fun. Good buy.

For what you got it for i think you did alright. At the very least you got a basic shape to add a bunch of greeblies and parts on to add some detail. With a little creativity I think it could turn out quite well. :thumbsup
As far as an internal frame, as you said i've heard of people using plastic but also balsa wood and stuff like that. Good luck.

whats best to reinforce, just strips of plastic? thanks

Yeah, just get some styrene plastic, I use Evergreen, and just make like little walls.
That way when you put it together the top and bottom will be supported by the additional styrene.

Think of it as a small skeletal structure.
