V3 Blue 1 X-Wing

Blue 1 may or may not have been the first X-Wing (a companion to the Red Y-wing), but it certainly holds the most mystique for me. So what better X to build? This will be my build thread, and rather than cut and paste it all over creation, I'll just post 'er here on this board.

First, you have to modify the V3 hull. The Blue 1 X is an anomaly in more ways than one. Structurally, it has no cockpit, no R2 unit, and some unique paneling/chipping/etc. I will try to fauithfully replicate all of these quirks, including a dummy of the visible inner armature (which will be a nice dry run for the real metal ones that we're working on for you guys!).

This evening, I removed the lower "mounting plate", all of the chipping, added the R2 strip (which is located much further forward on this one), filled in the R2 hole (to make the correct looking hole), filled in the panel lines that are not-quite-right, and opened the windows on the canopy a little.

Well, this is one way of making the ubiquitous X-Wing a bit less ubiquitous. :)

Great subject for an alternate take, J. I'll be monitoring your progress with interest.

LOL - thanks guys! I spent some time scribing this evening. What a pain in the butt :p

So nothing "sexy" to show tonight... but in a few days, woooo!

Still not done... refining refining refining!

Here's the mods next to a virgin V3 hull so you can see some of the changes more clearly:

Looking forward to watching this progress, J. Will you also be detailing the painting/weathering process?

I am so looking forward to this build (along with Lee's X-Wing)! I'm eager to see the paint scheme and weathering develop.

Keep those progress pics coming, and thanks for sharing your skills!
