V for Vendetta Mask Paint and Leather Build

Looking good buddy! The only thing I noticed for sure (you probably already know) is that the cheeks appear to be a little darker than the lips. But both of them are still very light colored at that.

Sup guys, huge update this week. Rusty85 sent me his mask to be stripped and repainted. I took the old paint off and put a couple coats of primer, then the base coat yellow.

Next, I applied the pink, and the dark brown on the top edge. Masking tape helped out a lot. Leather was stained and cut. Not done with it yet, but very close. Straps will be added last.

Today was shading, then facial hair was painted with a brush. Probably the funnest part of it all. Fabric was glued in too, which will be covered up by the leather inlay.

Looks fantastic man! You're an amazing painted and I couldn't be happier with the paint job! Is that one on the right mine? The one on the left looks like the right eye has a nick on the upper lid. You should throw up youtube video showing how you finished these they look amazing!

Hey everyone! It's been a while since my last post. I've been busy, but this build is coming to a close! I last left off with some beautifully painted masks (if I say so myself), now onto the leather. The inlays were cut with a template and stained after wet-forming. Then, I used lots of contact cement and an x-acto blade to get it all in nicely. Straps were sewn with black thread at 16 inch length. Hopefully I can get a real photo shoot done later. But for now, we'll have to enjoy the iPhone pics!

I just want to say you did a great job with the paint and lining it with leather. :)

This is an old one, but I wanted to leave some final notes for you guys! I was very pleased with the look of the leather, but it very much comes with a lot of working and patience. It took (3-4?) hours of soaking the leather in hot water to get it to do what I wanted. Then, I had to blast it with a hair dyer so it would stay put for me to trim the holes out. I would suggest to anyone doing something similar to get the thinnest piece of hide you can find and just dye it to your color specifications. The dyes were really strong, so I had to build it up in layers to get the accurate color. Another thing to take into account is glue; or contact cement in this case. I did some sanding with 60-grit sandpaper on the resin before I laid down the cement to give it some grab. Make sure to use a lot, and on both the surface and the leather. The straps were two pieces of leather bonded back-to-back as well, then sewed.

Hi Taylor Jean, I bought a V mask about a year ago and whilst the shape is perfect I'm not a fan of the paint job, any chance u can send it to you and you can work on it? What's the process for doing so? Thanks in advance :)

Hey kbros01, my schedule has been filled with college work so I don't think I can take on any painting commissions right now. I'll be available in late December through early January to do any prop work. The process I did for my last repaint was basically sanding off the old paint, laying down some primer coats, then painting on top of that. If you're still interested, send me a pm and we can figure out a plan!

Hello Taylor, I have to say you have done the best work i have seen in a Guy Fawkes mask yet :) Back in 2006 I managed to grab a dc direct mask and for the most part very happy with it. The paint job is lacking however... the pink is so faint you can hardly tell its there. I was wandering if you still worked on masks? And what the price range would be? Of course, I would not use my original and instead find another mask online. Cant be too careful with it lol When I moved back to Alaska from Colorado I held it on the plane haha Anyways, happy new year :D

Really Beautiful work! Awesome. I just messaged you a question about it...2 years late =)

For now, I have 2 masks I'm completing for clients. Though I'll post a project run thread if I end up finishing more.

It looks like I may have scored one of your builds on eBay...this was exactly what I wanted. Is it from you?
