V & A Hollywood Costume Exhibition

There's a really cool looking exhibit going on right now, (October 20, 2012 through January 27, 2013) at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, England. I've been looking forward to this for the past couple of months now, mostly so that I could finally get a good look at the white disco suit that John Travolta wore in Saturday Night Fever. (It's the first time that it's been seen in public in 17 years since the late Gene Siskel sold it at a Christie's auction.) From the pictures that I've seen so far, this whole event looks pretty amazing. They've got original costumes from Charlie Chaplin, Indiana Jones, James Bond, Superman, The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind and lots more. If anyone from the the U.K. gets to go I'd love to see some better pictures. So far these are some of the better ones that I've found.

Looks like they've got the Propstore Indy costume on show (which came from the late Noel Howard of MBA Costumes). It's a Temple of Doom jacket, not Raiders. Great display though.

Hi Adam

Thanks for this post. I've also been waiting for this exhibition for some time and even had intentions of going but sadly I won't be able to (things aren't exactly easy....).
If anyone goes please please post photos here. Thanks in advance

Would be awesome if you actually were allowed to take pictures. On the website there's a disclaimer saying you can't due to 'copyright reasons'. How you enforce such silliness in this day & age where people have cameras everywhere is beyond me. I've even been in touch with the press office to try and obtain special permission to shoot the Superman costume with no luck...

Agree 100% - it's a bit stupid! There goes my chance to "take a look" at the exhibition :angry

That's a bit rubbish that they won't let people take pictures!
There is no way I'm going if I can't get pics

Will there ever be an exhibit that accurately describes EXACTLY what Indiana Jones movie the costume they're displaying was from? Nomatter what display or where it is, it seems they always choose "Raiders" as the origin of the costume and in each case they choose not to do the research and instead choose to mislead.

Will anyone get hurt or lose sleep over it? No. But for the sake of integrity just do a bit of homework and get it right.

Thanks for the pics you posted.

There appears to be some amazing costumes in the exhibit, though I am not a fan of the photos with the actors heads over them. It looks very strange.

For those of us who can't go to the exhibition, there's a book (a bit expensive) about it edited by Deborah Nadoolman (curator of the exhibition). Pic 1 is the book cover (featuring Dorothy's shoes) and pic 2 are the real shoes.

I'll be going, although not until mid-December. My wife will certainly be taking lots of photos though (I'll kick her if nothing else) and try to remember about this thread to link them up.
