I just got some Vader ROTJ saber parts that I need to clean up. I've never worked with resin before. BEfore I start sanding and filing, are there any saftey tips I need to know? Thanks,

John

I'm making my own toy. I had to sand off the mold lines and I used a super fine sand paper sponge thing.

It's about 1/4" thick and is springy.

I wet sanded the piece and it came out super smooth.

If you are removing a large amount of material, use a dust mask.

Unless you're partial to extracting the dust from your sinuses at a later date...:)

LOL It could mix with all the drywall dust from when we remodeled our house 5 years ago. I still think I see white when I sneeze sometimes.

Definitely do your cutting/sanding outside (if you can.) The particles are much finer than normal styrene plastic.
Also, keep in mind that most resins will sand a lot faster than styrene. So go easy on the parts until you get a feel for the material.

If you can get hold of them, instead of fannying around with sandpaper and blocks - try beautician's nail files. They're robust, ready to go and available in all grades...
