Urethane Release Agent

Are there any other release agents to use with Urethane Rubber besides wax? Is it possible to use Vaseline or Soap, WD-40 or something else? :confused


What I'm trying to do is make a mold of something I've finished with bondo, and I've tested a small part with plain old spray 200, and it stuck like a mofo. Should I shellack, then spray, or ... will only wax work? Is there something I can pick up at home depot or hobby lobby?

I doubt soap would work but vaseline should. The problem is if it's too thick you could lose detail and if it's too think you might miss a spot and not notice...

You can buy a spray mould release you should find it on most resin supply sites

Smooth-On sells a ton of release agents. They have some that are specifically designed to release urethane (Ease release 400, I believe).

Is there a reason you can't use a silicone rubber? Not only do you typically not need a mold release from the item it secrets silcone oils that continue to work as mold release for at least 20-30 pulls.

that's precisely what I ended up doing. Time for a new mold to be made.
