Untamed - Restarted Head Sculpture - Mandibles Added

Looks real good. The biggest problem I had was the face, once you get that blocked out make sure it's how you like. Look at it and work on it from different angles. I would see it from one angle and like it and from another not. Just some stuff I learned. Hope it helps :)

So I've been working on this just about every day. Slow and steady. I learn more and more every time i pick up a tool. But i cant seem to get the eyes right, Its like no matter if i use hard or soft brushes with rakes and lighter fluid i can't seem to get rid of the harsh lines. Do I just have to go over and over it until it smooths out? the more and more i get frustrated at it the more i like the dinosaur look of it instead of being fleshy lol. Any advice helps, thanks!

Finally added the mandibles. let me know what you think! it has come a long way since i first added them. the toughest part for me is getting the right shape so i seem to be taking my time with it lol. I keep looking at it and thinking he has a John McCain type jaw lol. ya thats mean haha. I'm wondering if once i add the wrinkles if it will start to look right.

I separated the middle dread hole from the others in the pic and i started thinking it could make it look a little goofy. if it turns out bad I'll just make a modified dread that splits into 2 and tether them together with a wide dread ring or dirty piece of cloth to act like a pony tail lol. kinda like that fudge up. not sure what im gonna do with it yet.

Thanks for the comments guys! It keeps me goin' lol

Now that I have the general shape of my mask and I have a bunch of clay left i was thinking about building an armature of my sculpture so I can work on the bio also. I have a really cool custom look that I want to go with so I need an armature. How are people doing this? I was thinking about just putting some plastic over my sculpture and fiberglassing it but I was thinking it would cause too much heat. Anyone have some quick insight on how to make a quick armature of a sculpture? Wire it then fiberglass? Thanks for any ideas and insight

What are your plans for the mask so far is it going to be in latex?  As latex will shrink a little so if you start on a bio as well then you could run into troubles.  Bio will be to big for the mask.
the sculpt is looking good.

Yeah it is going to be in latex. After checking out Master Anubis's head in silicone I really want a silicone one but I'm too far along with my sculpture lol. I was worried about the shrinkage but i didn't know just how loose the bio would be after I pulled my head mold. I've seen this huntorial by Predatrhuntr (here) and was thinking about doing it this way but I didn't know if there was a quicker way once you had your head. Thanks for looking in!

Update: I have just about all of my dread holes in. I used a hole saw set with a drill to create them all. carved them out and made them look pretty then I worried myself about the negative edges so I filled them a little and rounded the inside. I figured i could just cut any material out after i made some dreads to make them fit better. but for the sake of making my mold work i made them this way. Pics will come soon. I'm very close to start texturing it all.

I was checking out a lot of posts by Honus and how he automated his suits with the arduino board and it inspired me to buy an arduino. thats kind of why my progress has been slow. Bought a couple of books to teach myself C Programming and I'm gonna give it a try. I've spent about $100 on books and a starter kit so i'm pretty excited. hopefully i can make something half as cool as Honus and Alphatech. The least I should be able to do is make my suit light up and have sounds, hopefully lol.

Lots of good stuff can be accomplished with an arduino.  I use one in my bomb gaunt and am working on a shield for one that will include sound along with a few other "goodies".  I've seen people cover their latex head in plastic and make a mold of it with bandages.  Once that's done you can remove it from the head and reinforce it with more plaster.  I used that method for my bio armature and it's working out well so far.  This sculpt is really turning out great!

Thanks for the feedback guys! I really appreciate it. I've done quite a bit of work on it today. will have more progress shots of it once i clean up the crown and add some more texture. As far as i've seen the capabilities of the arduino boards are pretty extensive. I'm surprised I havent seen more people using them on their suits. the predator is MADE for it lol

I disagree, I say the Arduino is made for the predator  :p.  I'm actually using a nano in my bomb gaunt, but want to add a couple of uno's in the backpack for sound and (hopefully) animatronics.  Gotta build a new backpack first though.

I really want to make a head tracking shoulder cannon. I figure the sounds and lights should only take me a few days to conquer, so by time i get to the point of having to build a backpack I'll be able to build myself that head tracking system. I bought the mega2560 Arduino board so it has a lot more input and output pins that way i don't have to use multiple boards. I guess I know who to come to when i run into issues : P plus it should open up some avenues for trades. it would be cool to see an entire clan with head tracking systems lol

I've been pretty busy with work today but i managed to make something really cool. I'm sure some of you crafting veterans out there will know. frequent dollar stores and the goodwill stores. I found so much stuff at those cheap stores it is ridiculous. I honestly haven't been to a dollar store since i was a young kid but all the materials they have there are pretty helpful. i was searching around for a stipple sponge and couldn't find one so i decided to check the dollar store for some stuff. I bought a bunch of different kinds of sponges to see if that would clean up wrinkles and the sort and when used in the right order makes a really cool and distinct skin pattern. something to use over wrinkles. i'm probably gonna make a huntorial for it because i like the method so much and it looks clean. kind of like a cool mishap. but anyways on to some more cool stuff.

I was driving home from a friends house after a night of drinking and was passing a goodwill store so i stopped in and found a lazy Susan. its not a normal cool looking low profile lazy Susan but a tall goofy once that needed some elbow grease to make it work. By the way a lazy Susan is just a small little turn tables that swivels 360degrees, a lot of cake decorators use them. The best part is that it cost me .99cents. I then went to home depot and found the cheapest wood i could find that was sanded. I paid 2 dollars for the wood and then got to work.

From start to finish here are all of the pictures but 1. I forgot to take one picture and that was the bottom after i drilled out a hole so i could screw in the bolt on the bottom of the Susan. it is just a 1 1/2 inch hole that allows me to get a 1/2socket wrench inside to screw the base to the top. I then used extra long bolts for strap mounts. I wanted them long because the Susan is only compress wood and even though seems sturdy you can never trust compress wood all the way. so the bottom of the bolts act as supports in case the susan starts to crack and lean. Plus i can use them as handles to turn the sculpture. pondering adding some more on the other sides. The straps are steel that i had laying around the shop that bound together some steel bar that I had ordered. I hope this proves intriguing and gets you guys out there and playing. This $3 will definitely increase the speed at which i can sculpt. take care guys!
