Untamed - Restarted Head Sculpture - Mandibles Added

Hello preds! so for the past 2 weeks I've been hanging out behind the scenes just reading as much as possible. but lately i've been losing sleep over all of my ideas so i figured its probably best to get started on this right away. LOL I started with an undersized Styrofoam mannequin head and then built up with clay for my head dimensions. Now I'm just trying to get the shape of the pred head correct. I kind of want the crown to be tall since I'm only about 5'9. I'm extremely excited and I'm working like a madman lol. So, if you have any tips on keeping the symmetry correct or shaping ideas let me know. Thanks!

I'm thinking the forehead is too rounded and the face and forehead isn't vertical enough. What do you think?
Also because I'm not using my life cast head or full size mannequin head I feel like the dimensions are all off lol could just be me.

Ill be honest-- I am personally not really worried too much about the symmetry with the one I am doing. There are pieces that you want exactly the same on both sides, but it can be hard to mirror it. I would get your basic shape down that you want, and go from there-- If you are anything like me, it will evolve and change as you apply the clay until the piece you want emerges-- go for it!!!!

The crown and back of it look pretty close.  If you're going for the P1 look, don't make the "crest" around the back of the head to big or too steep.  The brow seems to stick out a little too far, but other than that I think you're on the right track.  Keep workin' it...it'll come

Get yourself a cheap caliper so you can use it to keep each side equal from a center line.
I own an aerospace machine shop so that's what I've been using. The only thing I'm worried about whether or not it will fit my head after the cast because I used that stupid Styrofoam head. BTW I've been getting a kick out of your projects, inspired me to start drawing up my own ideas to make the whole suit mechanical. I've been trying to not get ahead of myself, gotta focus on the mask lol. I can do mechanical, just haven't done sculpting or molding so its a very fun learning experience. I plan on milling out my bio from one of my CNCs but have to have the mask done first.

So I studied the picture I'm holding up and it seems like I'm on the right track it just looks funny because i don't have the lower mandibles attached yet. The front of the face and forehead is parallel to the back of the head so once I add the mandibles it should look correct. What do you all think? having trouble adding pics

You just gotta go for it. if it doesn't turn out how you like then you will learn so much from the first screw up that you can do it the second time. I'm having a blast doing it. just jump into it.

Update pictures! so the forehead is too tall i know that, just haven't shaved it. working on texturing the mouth just a little so i wont have to do so much after i add the mandibles. once i align the mandibles it should help me figure out just how tall i want the crown by how it wraps around the head. I shaved the sides of the head so it looks less like a football and more like a predator lol. Good progress?

Do you still want the measurements off of mine? I used a full head lifecast sculpt for my base and buildt off of that.

my progress for today. I did a lot of reshaping, it was like i just couldnt get the contour right. its getting there. should be just a couple of days now before mold.

Do NOT stress over getting it perfectly symetrical, your face is not perfectly symetrical, so close enough.... is good enough, if you wonder if this is correct do a test in photoshop, you will be surprised how different the left of your face is too your right.

and if you want it to fit you well due to a smaller frame you will want to sculpt it slightly smaller than a normal head.

most of my sculpts are between 11.5-13.5 inches wide , and range from 20-23 inches long ( following the curve of the head )  latex will shrink from those meassurements by approx 10%.

its all fun and there is no wrong way, just enjoy the ride.

Yeah I'm not trying to make it perfect by any means but I added waay too much clay at the beginning and made it huge and because of that it threw the whole thing off. its like when I correct one thing it changes the look and something else looks wrong lol. It started because im using once of those stupid tiny Styrofoam heads. I'm getting it close. have the cheeks, forehead and face where i want it and from that I'm gonna sculpt the crown and then i can start throwing some texture on him. BTW Usurper I don't know if you noticed but those pics im using as reference are one of your sculpts. : ) not copying just using as reference.

hey go for it, i think its cool people think they can take reference from my work, but pssssst my silicone P1 is a better head imo

Hey babe! Lookin good :) I know you're a perfectionist at heart, but don't stress it... Small things here and there won't make this any less amazing. Just think of the big picture! I'm pretty sure an uneven head won't even be noticed after all the amazing details and working parts that will be added to the finished product.
Keep it up! Can't wait to add in detail for you this weekend.
Love you!

Okay quick update. I've been working on the eyebrows and mandibles so what do you think? any shaping advice? I think its coming along nicely. mandibles need a little work then I'm gonna shape the crown then start texturing!

Nice job! I'm procrastinating on starting my own just cause of the cost of clay sheeesssh. Looking forward to the rest of this man!

Thanks. Don't procrastinate on it, its best to just go for it.  my advice though is get some good sculpting clay, you will have a much better time with it. Then when you're sculpting you can read up on how to cast. then as you're casting you can learn how to paint lol. its worth it though even if your first sculpt sucks, it is a lot of fun.

I'M BACK! As some of you know i own my own business and I've been completely swamped with work. I'm starting to get some free time so this is what i did. I started over on my sculpture because the clay i was using was too soft. forked out the money for some monster clay then got a bunch of work and had to quit sculpting so here is my progress. should have it done shortly. surfing now for some pictures of inside the mouth if anyone has some good ones, post 'em! thanks! let me know what you think! critique it tough. been trying to get the shape of the crown correct. maybe shave off the top of the crown a little? what do you guys recommend for smoothing monster makers? 99% alcohol or lighter fluid?

A lot more practice, a short break and a little bit of frustration and i think i have just about a completed mouth lol. It is starting to come together a lot quicker the more i use the tools and try more things. still working on the teeth, i think once i get paint on them I'll be happy lol.
