Unidentified Vader saber?

So a few days ago, I cruised over to this wonderful blog post.

You can imagine my surprise when I saw this:

I've never seen this particular Vader saber in all of my time interested in SW props. It's obviously a graflex and ESB or later. Does anyone know any more about it?

Part of me thinks it's either a stunt version or a prop replica someone may have made, but I'm thinking it may have been a dueling version with a rod in it. Though I could be wrong.

Let the speculation begin!

That saber was auctioned off by Gary Kurtz and Jason Joiner through profiles in history as a screen used ESB saber. It is not the energizer bunny saber and never held a dueling rod, The emiter is the standard graflex depressible brass contact. It was in the sci-fi museum in Seattle with the Paul Allen stunt helmet and is currently on tour.

I've actually identified all the original parts of the saber if anyone is interested.

You're saying part of that is an actual Graflex?

Regardless, I've never seen any evidence to indicate that that thing was ever screen used. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think that you can see the prop in Vader's hand during the scene when Luke is being blown out of the window is Cloud City.

I would definitely be interested what all the used parts were. If not for documentation's sake at least.

Vader has the ESB hero saber in that scene.

I am at my folks for x-mas, so I don't have my dvds or any of my reference pics available, but as I remember in the shot where Vader is clutching the wall to stop from being blown outside, you can see that the end of the saber he is holding is the business end of a graflex flash.

That's the scene that the above screen cap is from - ESB HD. The red wire and MPP thumbscrews are clearly visible.
The saber prop seems to stay consistent throughout the scene. You can see the interior of the MPP emitter pretty clearly on the HD.

This is an old thread. But I came upon it and realized I'd never posted what the base flash was for this prop. It's a Heiland Synchronar 64b. The shroud was made out if a grey plastic part that is encased in the flash head

But because the thread is so old, and I wasn't here, I have no idea what you're referencing... though now I'm curious.

I believe we're reference this piece of junk Picture 67.png

It'd be pretty neat if someone found a screencap of this being used!

I...only call it junk because of the square slap patch on the front that doesn't in the slightest cover the seam between the graflex slave and the heiland. :) haha

I have studied just about every frame of film in the OT anytime there is a lightsaber on screen and I'm very certain this saber was never seen on screen.

Being from Gary's collection it's possible it was production made as a stunt or stand-in saber, but I'd have to see an on-set photo. More likely it was made for Gary by the prop dept during production and given as a gift.
