Hey guys, being as good as broke lately I've been trying to find ways to put my 3d modeling skills to good use and earn some monies.
So with the announcement today of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (mega yay!) I decided to knock up what I believe to be a pretty close approximation of Francis Drakes ring that Nate wears around his neck.
I'm doing these through Shapeways, and have a test one coming in the mail. So if the quality is to my liking I'll be offering them up for sale early next year.
The ring itself is roughly 25mm wide (as good as an inch) and 7mm tall, it'll only come in the one size as it's designed to be worn around the neck or displayed.
It has 3 inscriptions as per the game:
- SIC PARVIS MAGNA: meaning "Greatness from small beginnings"
- 1.29.1596: 29th of January 1596, the day after Francis Drake supposedly died
- 3.6 -87.2: The coordinates of his coffin as found at the start of the first game...I took a little bit of creative license here as there's no official coordinates.
Elena says at the start that they are "off the coast of panama" so i looked around and in the ocean to the south of panama I was able to find coordinates that were in fact my birthday (3rd of June 1987)...lol...so I figured why not inject a little piece of me into the piece...
here's a few shots of shapeways' rendering of my model
i used a few hi res promo shots of the game to get the general shape, and using a screen grab from the 1st game found a font that matched pretty closely to the real ring...
I'm hoping it'll come out alright...I guess I'll find out in a week or 2....
I'm also looking at doing up Nate's belt buckles from the 3 games (he had a different one in each game) to offer up for sale as well, but they'll come later.
EDIT: should also mention it'll be made from stainless steel
