ULTRON for Pepakura ** 04/11 paper unfold added!**

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura * 3/27 HELMET ADDED TO FIRST POST88**

Thanks Laelle for the kind words and thanks again for this amazing thread!!

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura * 3/27 HELMET ADDED TO FIRST POST88**

Watching your work very intently. It's awesome stuff! I was thinking about maybe trying to make your armor but free handing it into the variant armor. I'm not too good at free hand but the more I look at it the more I realized similarities between your and the new one.

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura * 3/27 HELMET ADDED TO FIRST POST88**

Tell you what, no fear to try that, my plan is making that 'underarmor' where you can lay details over the top...
I would LOVE to create the suit that I think Ultron deserves, but for me I have to freehand it. And not quit.4

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura * 3/27 HELMET ADDED TO FIRST POST88**

OK, so I sorted through the chest, abdomen and cod pieces. Bolt heads are separated, ribs, and also most of the rear spine detail. I am hoping this will make building a bit easier. I will also section the rear of the abdomen up the back, so that it can be adjusted here behind the spine overlay if needed. Barring any roadblocks/unexpected surprises, I'm hoping to have all of these section unfolded for foam and with a manageable scale in the next day. I included a pic of the individual assembly groups. The components will assemble in pepakura if imported to help with scaling, except for the helmet.

I'm also starting to think about the tops of the thighs. The front armor plates start a ways below the top openings, because I'm thinking the tops might need to be trimmed down to increase range of motion. i can always design hip plates later, but I was hoping to not need them. We'll see.

Chest, abs, and cod foam templates added to first post.

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura ** 3/31 CHEST, ABDOMEN AND COD ADDED**

Sadly, my printer is on the fritz = no building Ultron :(

I'll download them later today and check out the models for any problems and everything, but they look pretty good from the screen caps. Good job man!

Will all of these files be released for pepakura and card at some point? The files look incredible!

This is coming out beautifully. Hey Laelee, you going to spring con?

Thanks! I just hope that this technique I'm using (with the full underlayment through the abs) turns out to be a good idea. The upside is that adjusting for waist sizes and assembly should be a lot easier, but then of course you are using extra foam in the underpinnings so it requires more. Any feedback is welcome on this, as it's an experiment at this point. :)

Thanks you, I will get some the paper pep files out, but it may take a little bit. I have to 'rebuild' the parts to work in paper pep, giving them reinforced edges/ etc... Hopefully this week I'll get the files rebuilt, it's the unfolding (for me) that is the tough part on these... A lot of unusual angles.

Should be there, I'm already loaning out a couple of costumes for friends that want to go :thumbsup

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura ** 3/31 CHEST, ABDOMEN AND COD ADDED**

Laelle, thanks for the files, they are awesome! I saw them and I like the way you made them with the underlayment system, even if needed more foam! Besides I think you can use thinner foam (3 or 5mm) in the inner section or maybe use fabric and stick the abs in it. But I'm only guessing.
Anyway nice work!

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura ** 3/31 CHEST, ABDOMEN AND COD ADDED**

Thanks, hopefully it'll work out well. I like the idea of a light fabric underlayment below the ribs. You'd need to connect the pieces of course, but you could wear the chest piece on your shoulders, then have the fabric ab undersuit, foam ribs, and foam cod hang from the chest bottom. Hopefully this works out for someone :thumbsup

The right shoulder bell and bicep have now been added to the first post, and I fixed the broken links to the abdomen and cod as well :facepalm

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura ** 4/2 SHOULDER BELL AND BICEP ADDED**

[added]

Sorting through the thigh model, I'm separating the thigh into two sections to help with range of motion. The original thigh section was modeled right up to the bottom of the cod, which would look great on a standing mannequin but allow zero leg movement at the hip. The thigh file will now include the main section, and then also the filler 'wrap' that fills the gap between thigh and cod. I'm hoping this wrap can be used as a trimmable guide to fit for preference when building. The render below shows this piece in a different color.

I should have a preliminary thigh and shin file up pretty soon, hopefully the first unfolds are working out ok.

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura ** 4/2 SHOULDER BELL AND BICEP ADDED**

Could you make that section as an insert into the top of the thigh? There are "thigh extension" files floating around for some of the Iron Man armors, maybe something like that. Or is that what I am looking at? haha

Great minds... :) I am looking at the file as it would build in Pepakura right now, and thinking that I should just add 'tails' at the top edge to extend that filler into the cod section. That wrap section is a separate template already, so it's an easy adjustment.

[EDITED] So I've increased the upper thigh wrap height drastically to go up into the cod, especially in the rear section. When it is built, it will have to be trimmed to fit properly. There was no point in cutting back the inner thigh; if I over cut, it defeats the purpose of the piece. I think this section will have to be trial-and-error for fitting.

Did some fitting and unfolding, hoping that the range of motion and relative scaling comes out well. The connected upper torso pieces (including the shoulders) should all be scaled the same to fit together. The bicep and forearm should be scaled together, as well as the thigh-shin combo, but there is room for adjustment. I still have hand plates to model, and also some sleeve wear.
This is a render of all the current parts at matching scale (252). I think that the biceps and forearms will need to be scaled up a little for a roomier fit, shouldn't be a problem with the large shoulder openings. Ignore the multiple colors, just seeing where the details are sitting :)

Thanks for looking!
