Re: Ultron for Pepakura

Alright, that's alright then ;)

Uh... foam? :'( Is there going to be a plain unfold?

Re: Ultron for Pepakura

I would like to get the helmet file out next week. I haven't settled on an antenna, but that can always be added afterwords. :thumbsup

Looking forward to it! Are the antenna symmetrical? If so then I'll probably 3D print them and mold and cast them.

Uh... foam? :'(

Hey man, I make/wear costumes for mobility. Function over form. If it can't survive the wearer being drunk at a suite party at a con then it's not right for me!

That said, seeing this in a fiberglass pep would be phenomenal!

Re: Ultron for Pepakura

Eh, wasn't really complaining, I know foam is a LOT better for mobility, I was hoping to make an army of ultrons though

My idea:

(pep, resin, fiberglass, support, vacu form in several components, rinse, repeat!)

Then find some people that are all roughly the same size and have a march of Ultron! :p

Doesn't matter though, this is still awesome!

Re: Ultron for Pepakura

I build everything in paper pep, so I'm sure there will be files as such. I am trying to make this a foam-friendly build though, so in the end there may just have to be two different model sets for each type.

The antennas in the first renders are symmetrical. I will likely model two more styles (with renders) and upload them all for variety's sake. :thumbsup

Re: Ultron for Pepakura

Thanks!

So I've got a helmet file! It may go through some changes, but I thought I'd at least get this up now for anyone that wants a project. I have unfolded it for paper pep, it includes the main helm, the mouth insert, and the first two modeled antennas. Default scale is 1.00 and should be a pretty good fit for a 23.5-24" head.
The mouth insert has an added lip for alignment, and the antennas both have guide-holes to install if you choose to use them. I also left the helmet back attached- after I build one, I'll have a better idea of a seam location on the back for a removable panel. I did not include the domes in the mohawk or chin in the pep, but I can add them if people want to make those out of paper. I'm just going to form mine out of styrene for now.

The picture is also a link to the helmet download on 4shared:

Here's an image of the mouth insert (included in the above download)

I'll also add the download to the first post later today (along with future additions). I will also try and get a foam unfold up in the next day. The chest and torso are 85% done now, so that should also be available in a little bit.

i have added this project to my wishlist !

Re: Ultron for Pepakura - proto helmet file added page 2-

Thanks for the comments!

The chest, cod and neck brace at this stage. Detailing is kept pretty low-key to make the initial templates easier to work with, but I still have a bit of work. What do you think?
Chest: I had added recessed fasteners in the 'wings' along the spine, but it looked overdone, so I removed them. I also removed smaller wings at the spine's top, the detail just looked forced. The rear shoulder blades are pretty plain at this point, but they will be covered a by the shoulder bells pretty well. I also started some recessed bolt details, such as the four under the arm openings. I see a couple of more spots that could use them, and these are easy additions in foam.

Abdomen: First off, the abdomen bands that wrap around the side are pretty simple, but I think they will stay that way for now. As I posted before, they'll be much easier to bevel and detail after they're cut out. The ends of those bands have recessed openings in them, but I think I need to change that because frankly it makes no sense to me. I also would like to add something between those 6 bolts at the small of the back, maybe just a beveled plate connected to the belt.

Belt and cod: I have given these no attention at all really, just a raised belt and cod section with a recessed bolt detail. I think that both the cod front and belt surface needs some detailing, but possibly after they've been built with more foam or a soldering iron. I can also render something out if anyone has suggestions. I'm not sure about hip plates; the thighs and cod mesh together nicely right now, but I want to be able to walk easily and (gasp) sit down.

Overall it's coming along. I've gotta be honest though, the direction I took the torso (especially the chest and swoop of the abs) keeps making me think more 'batman' than 'robot', I haven't settled on how I feel about that yet... :confused Anyways, thanks for looking, feedback as always is appreciated :thumbsup

Re: Ultron for Pepakura - proto helmet file added page 2-

To help that you could make several layers and have the ribs be separate, attachable free moving details, just a suggestion.

Sorry, no progress on the pep helmet, the printed pages are starring at me though... O.O

Re: Ultron for Pepakura - proto helmet file added page 2-

Personally I think the belt/cod looks fine as-is. I personally don't mind something that requires detailing after the major shapes are built, especially for a foam build.

I get what you mean about the spine section, the only suggestion I could make is to make the actual "spine" details be consistent on the chest portion and the abdomen portion. If you look at something like the Mass Effect N7 armors, there are spine details that tie it all together to look like a consistent piece. Or for another example, like Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2. With something like Ultron, I can see something where the design of a human vertebrae are used to travel the spine details.

The helmet is bad ass! Going to start on that next week when I have this week's work cleared. :D

Thanks guys! Rodolfo I'm love'n the mini WM :D
I worked a spine detail into the lower back (Msleeper gives excellent advice :p) to fill the void there, and also started reworking some preliminary detailing that has started to look out of place to me. I also revisited my should bells, and they are starting to come around. Here's a quick render with those details, along with the neck brace:

Re: Ultron for Pepakura - proto helmet file added page 2-

Here's a pic to hopefully clarify a little bit what I was talking about with the Armorer and MSleeper on modeling this to be more template-friendly for foam (or whatever).

jhKL5jD.png

The left shows the unaltered ab section(with the separation point fyi). I then pull the majority of the raised details off, leaving the base suit that can be built in very few pieces (center). Then, the raised pieces can be templated separately (right side) along with bolt heads/etc. and attached to that base form. I'm hoping that this also makes modifications a lot easier, once the kinks are worked out.

Re: ULTRON for Pepakura * 3/27 HELMET ADDED TO FIRST POST88**

Thank you! The helmet (and details) have been added to the first post (finally). 4shared has proven too unreliable for me over the last few weeks, so all new files will likely be through mediafire. Thanks for your patience.

The pic below is the helmet with the half-spheres in the mohawk and chin added. I added a .PDO (not unfolded) of those details in the first post to help coming up with the diamteters :)
