Ultimate Iron Man Foam Build (WIP)

Yeah my speech can be off at times, but I like that your doing something different with variant of IM. Great job and I watch your build with much anticipation, maybe I will be inspired for my own build. Quick question will you be using magnets for the face panel or will you go motorised?

As it is now the face panel is fixed and the helmet is just removed as a whole. I know in the comics (pic from Ultimate Armor Wars #03) the face-plate moves up and I would love to replicate this but I believe that would require a base more sturdy than the foam. Once the suit is complete I may look into doing a fiberglass helmet to allow for a move-able face-plate.

How does the torso section feel when sitting? Any flexibility?

The torso feels fine so far. It is quite snug and tight onto the abs section, but walking and twisting feel fine. I'd hate to have it flex too much because once painted it may crack when flexed too much. I havent built the codpiece yet so I will need to build that first to see how it all feels to sit.

Im afraid as with my MK6 that the stock cod may be too small so im gonna make a basic paper one later today to try to get the scale right.

ran out of undercoat paint and cant be stuffed going to the shop today. Forearm/Gauntlet and chest/back undercoated, bicep has had 3 layers of pva sealant and I have discovered that there is no way in hell the stock size cod will go over my hips. Increased by 10% then 10% again for right size opening. Hopefully i wont look too stupid.

You can't get the right size to fit around and then just use Velcro to make it two parts so it kind of 'snaps' together? That's what I'm going to do with the kidlet's MK VII.

Such a rad character, and I am gonna keep checking this thread for update pics. Lookin' good so far ^__^

getting into it isnt necessarily the issue its the size of the opening and the size of my waist that i needed to enlarge it for. I dont have the supergero tiny waistline. I will velcro if necessary like i did with the chest, but velcro seams arent always as pretty as a glued join.

Anyway, not too much progress, ive been sealing and undercoating parts and have run out of paint for the time being, but I shall post the half painted chest pics.

I was confused as how to paint the back of this as in 1 comic that I was using as reference the back has at least 2 different looking paint jobs (comic images from Ultimate Armor Wars #01). The model is somewhat different from this as the ridge along the back is almost horizontal where as the comic version is more V-shaped.

Thats the thing with making armor based on comics. The continuity changes from artist to artist or they have to slightly change a 3d image to 2d. Well your the artist in this case it won't ever be 100% accurate, but you can do your own thing.
