UK casting resin recommendations?

I've decided to have a go at something new and would like to try making a copy of one of my sculpts. I've got some material on the way to make a silicon mould, but have yet to get some resin to cast in. I'm completely new to this side of things, so does anyone have any recommendations as to exactly what type of resin I need and where I can get it in the UK? Any help would be appreciated. :)

Call Tiranti they offer just about every type of resin you may ever want, they will also give advice on what you need, i've always found them to be very helpful.

These guys sell my favorite polyurethane/fastcast: Polytek Easyflo. Great service too and they have knowledgeable and helpful staff.

If you are going to go the fibreglass route, try these guys:

www.cfsnet.co.uk/

If you'd like to try Smooth-On products, then there is:

www.bentleychemicals.co.uk/

Mustn't forget : www.ambercomposites.co.uk/ Also very good for resins and silicone.

All 4 know their stuff. Prices are all very similar per kilo.

i used to get my resin from tirantis but its expensive. great customer service though.

if you buy enough at tomps for example you can almost halve the cost.

dont go to cfs.net, thier customer service stinks! they are DICKS!

2 part polyurethane (sometimes called fast-cast) is good for casts with little or no bubbles as its self degassing and sets in a few mins.

pm me if you get stuck ;)

Just go to;

www.mouldlife.co.uk

they supply to most of the prop and FX houses in the UK. The guys there know their stuff and are very helpful.

They carry a number of urethane resins including the Polytek Easiflow systems and the German Alwa resins. Both of which are excellent.

They also carry a sprayable urethane resin system which is fantastic for costume props and coating Polysytrene sculpts.

Their film & TV catalogue is downloadable from the website but they also carry a huge range of industrial products.

I've used a lot of the main suppliers in the UK, several of whom have been mentioned here, and spent a lot of money with a lot of them over the past 20yrs and had my fingers burnt by people who will happily sell you any old crap just to get their hands on your money.

I've found the guys at Mouldlife to be the best for honesty, good service and materials knowledge. Can't recommend them enough.

Best

Really? Never got that. I'll boycott them anyway. **** It. :)

they have always been great in the past but the last order i placed, there was a problem. they didnt want to know and just went round in circles, even though i just ordered several hundreds of pounds worth of goods

very dissapointed.

it would seem the customer is always wrong and to blame for thier products being duff.

Thanks for the help. :)

Anyone know the difference between POLY EASYFLO 60 - POLY URETHANE LIQUID PLASTIC and POLY 15 SERIES POURABLE CASTING RESINS POLY URETHANE LIQUID PLASTIC?

I have to admit here I used CFS a while back- fab.
My recent order of 20kg of silicone came with a yellow catalyst, a change from the usual blue. It completely cured the mix before I'd even poured it out of the cup- thankfully it was about a fivers worth of silicone- and I had used digital scales.
I have yet to contact CFS about it bu Ill prob just buy another catalyst, as PMing other people it sounds like CFS' answers werent helpful (or as cheap).
Neill- thanks for the link !!
NOt sure about the two casting resins Howlrunner- prob either a density level- some 'white' ones can feel very light- or a curing time.

I've had very good and fast cust serv. from CFS when they sent me two resin part A's instead of A&B.
Got the other part quickly and the wrong stuff was collected free.

thats because they f*cked up...as usual.

every single order ive placed in the last five years has had an error. same again with the last order.

my favorite was : ordered 4 boxes 12x1" resin brushes. i got 1 box of 12x4"brushes:lol

the products should have braile on the side of them then the blind f*ckers who pick the stock would stand a better chance at getting it right.
