Turning a new Cylon mask into a bust

I recently saw a few of these life-sized Cylon masks on E-Bay, and although the sales pictures of latex masks tend to be 1000% times nicer looking then what you get, I figured for the cheap price ($35 bucks) it was worth the risk. My plan is to turn it into a bust, fill it with something to give it structure, and make any changes that really stand out as wrong. I figure it is an easy way (easier for me anyway) to get a bust having no real sculpting skills.
If anyone has any particular suggestions on things to do or not do with something like this, let me know - it is all new to me.

Now this would not be the first time a plan of mine didn’t turn out well, but if it works at all, I will post some WIP pics. Fingers-crossed!:rolleyes

Well, I wouldn't recommend that expanding insulating foam in a can.:lol I used that with a 2 liter bottle in my mask as a core. It worked okay, but the foam expanded more than I expected and puffed up an ear of my mask when it hardened. I'm interested in seeing what works too-

I like your avatar! Classic!

Thanks - I found it in my pictures I took at Universal about million years ago. I use to love the Cylon attack part of the tour that is now the Earthquake subway thing.

I did think about that expanding foam, but I had a similar experiance trying to fill a hollow gun. Expanded way more then expected, and seem to get growing for days.:rolleyes

Well the mask is, of course, not as nice as the sales picture but the size is great, and the shape seems accurate. I can't decide if I should continue to try and make it a bust, or use it as a template (to look at) to sculpt the same thing as a bust. I have never sculpted anything so it may really suck, but with something the same size to "copy" into clay I may be able to pull it off. Interesting experiment either was I suppose.

Hate calling you on the location of the Battle of Galactica, but I have studied to a great degree. The old location of the Battle of Galactica roots were as follows. Before it was the BOG tram ride, that location was the Avalanche where foam boulders rolled down the hill crashing near the tram ride. Then in 1978 that location was then transformed in the Battle of Galactica (BOG) That tram ride event was open till 1992. Then in 1992 the current building that you now enter on the upper lot that hangs over the side of the hill to the base of where the BOG ride was at in now the closed Back To The Future ride, soon to be the Simpson's. I have posted over 150 photos and film clips on my site highlights the history of the location of the BOG ride. I have spoken with builders, techs, and Apollo Warriors from the show. Everything in between and all the way down to the ride be bulldozed.
If you or anyone else has some person collection photo you would like to share, I would love to post them. http://byyourcommand.net/photogallery/BattleofGalactica?page=1

Ah well, I just remember thinking it was cool as a kid- I don't remember anything else from the ride back then except Jaws, and the spinning tunnel thing from the Six Million Dollar Man. As a kid those where the three things that made the tour cool.:)
That is why I took the picture, because it was cool to see them in "real" life.

I agree it was cool, and I was an older kid when it open. I was 18 when it opened and drove to LA just to see it.

I was there (that time in 1979- at the ripe old age of 10) so it was still pretty new and really like being "in the show" for a ten year old.
I didn't make it back until 1994, but I was still looking for it 16 years later:)

So....They closed the BTTF ride?
Pity :(
Yes both the FL, and the CA location both closed. It was a big event a 30 day count down that was held for the closing. The last day was September 3rd (Labor Day)
