Tron (Rinzler) Costume COMPLETE PG 2. (Pic Heavy)

Re: Tron (Rinzler) Costume WIP

Just some updates:

I have been working on some wiring for the Identity Discs. I found a clear plastic platter plate at Good Will that I used a dremel on to create the blade part, and now I am in the process of adding LEDs to it. I have sanded the clear plastic to help it give better lighting. I have also lightly covered a disc with black spray paint to give it an outline I can cut the center light out with. I will most likely cover it with some clear plastic sanded with very fine sand paper, because I do not want it as cloudy as the blade. Anyways, here are some update pics. Still waiting on the PETG in the mail to form my visor :(

Re: Tron (Rinzler) Costume WIP

I have the discs cut and painted, now just finishing up the LEDs on the blade. I should have a mock-up before the end of the night.

Alright, I have one disc about... 90% finished. I went ahead and did a mock-up of what it will look like. Unfortunately I do not have the C-ring in the disc yet, but that will happen tomorrow. All in all, I think the disc came out pretty decent for $10-ish. Unfortunately there are 2 LEDs that were duds and I am still deciding if I want to replace them, might be too much of a pain. You can barely even tell they are out. Anyways, here are some more progress pics!

Edit:
Just kidding, took me like 2 minutes to replace the 2 dud LEDs! Saw a very simple snip-n-go method :p Still not much difference though ^^

Re: Tron (Rinzler) Costume WIP

Well, after laying in bed last night, I have come to the conclusion that I will not have enough time to finish the second Rinzler disc for this weekend's Halloween parties. I still have to cut out and glue on the foam to the bodysuit, wire the LEDs in the suit itself, create the disc HUB, vac form the visor (and make the vac former itself), dye it black with rit dye, paint and wire the leds in the helmet.... All before Friday night.

Crap.

Finished my disc! Working on the foam to glue onto the bodysuit right now... Tomorrow comes the first attempt at vacuum forming the visor!!

Re: Tron (Rinzler) Costume WIP (Pic Heavy)

Well, I ended up messing up the vacuum forming process! I am pretty sure I did not heat the PETG long enough :/ I first tired at 1 minute and 30 seconds at 350, but I got aout 3/4ths the way down before it became solid. Fail. Tried again at 2 minutes and 15 seconds, fail. I have no more PETG.

I ended up cutting a hole in the buck, and gluing the piece of helm that actually got formed. Now I have 3 pieces of a helmet, lol.

I think instead of Rit Dye, I am going to use Nightshade. The reason I am going with this is because I could not find a pot I could destroy, and I do not want to melt the one piece of visor I have that is usable.

I still have to cut out the foam armor pieces, cover it in plastidip, glue it onto the bodysuit, and wire the LEDs in the armor and helmet. I have to also put the helmet back together, add some bondo in certain areas so it is not all cut up, cover it in epoxy resin, paint the visor with nightshade and the helmet black.

So. Much. To. Do. Before. Halloween!

Not to mention my pops wants me to paint a skull on his face for a Halloween contest tomorrow -.-

Re: Tron (Rinzler) Costume WIP (Pic Heavy)

Dude, good luck! The pressure of deadline will help you to get it done though!
The shapes of the helmets look pretty clean, and those discs look spot on.

No sleep tonight!

Re: Tron (Rinzler) Costume WIP (Pic Heavy)

Well, I was able to finish the helmet (sorta). It turned out pretty... meh. I am very disappointed that I was not able to vacuum form it correctly and instead had to cut out a piece for the eyes. I paid $15 for a can of VHT Nightshade which worked pretty ok, but it had a weird reaction with the spray paint, like I figured. It ended up with some "orange peel" in certain areas, but it will be dark.

I also ended up not doing anything to the suit, yet. When I get home tonight I plan on throwing on some foam pieces real quick, rigging up a quick "T" for tron in the center of the chest, and calling it good.

Also, I usually don't judge myself too hrashly, but damn... I have some chicken legs since I stopped working out, so I am going to try to find some black tight-ish cargo pants... The body suit just didn't work with my legs, lol.

Ironically, my home-made disc is my favorite piece, lol.

pictures tonight!

Re: Tron (Rinzler) Costume WIP (Pic Heavy)

Well, my costume didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it to, but for a first try on building a costume that took more than a month, I'm decently happy with it. If you look at some of the helmet pics, you can see where the nightshade and spray paint had a weird reaction, which caused some "orange peel".

Anyways, here was my 1 hour of going out (we got out really late, haha)
