Tron Light Cycle

We had a small crisis with our molds. This has slowed us down quite a lot and we are going to make new molds.

Unfortunately the original cycle didn't fair to well in the molding process and we are going to have to do a little cosmetic work to fix it up. This could take a few weeks.

We started the repair work today and tested our fiberglass skills on one of the duff molds.
We are not really sure what the best product is for making our molds. If anyone has any suggestions please let us know.

Nice to see you carrying on, it's so easy to feel disheartened when something you've put a lot of time and effort into goes wrong.

we're back! we have both been on our holidays and have now returned.

we have had a long discussion today about whether if not we should continue to repair the bike or start again using the knowledge we have gained from this.

we ultimately decided to continue on until our October break and see if what we came do. if we can fix her we will continue on and create the molds. if not we will start again. its absolutely killing us to get this far and have to consider scrapping the project.

I'll post some love of the repair process soon and you guys can judge for yourselves.

I built an ALB-LAB resin kit of the tron bike-- it was sand fill and sand and fill - a lot of work but nothing compared to your awesome build --

Looks very cool. I like really like the original film.

Question: When you sculpt items like this, how do you get curved surfaces "round"?

Depends on the medium people use,, - sometimes with a polymer clay people individually roll items then attach then recraft.. -- for plaster people scult by hand or by using sculpting tools and even sand the surface when set to ensure the angles etc are 100% - -- There sure are some great artisan's on this board lets' hope to all be so good one day,, -

Hey FriendsoFlynn, I also modeled a Tron 1 lightcycle. I spend a full month ( during my free time ) modeling the bike from the movie, which is way more simple in comparison with yours. I managed to get all the details, but it was a pain in the tweet.

If you're any good with 3D, I would strongly suggest you to try to model this one - maybe not as detailed - so you can work out the shapes and all. After this, you pop out a pep model from your 3D one and that will give you a great help.

Hey,
Things have been pretty crazy at work and sadly the light cycle kinda fell to the side. It currently sits proudly on top of a filing cabinet and every now and then we look at it, sigh and say we really must finish that.
We were really surprised to find that people had found our original post and had taken an interest in it. Hopefully when things settle down and we finish a few other projects we have on at the moment the old girl will be dusted off and completed.

The original idea was to put a base on it and light it up with possibly a lit perspex beam coming out the back.

At the moment she is partially repaired and sanded. The back wheel need some major work, probably removed and replaced and she is an odd collection of colours due to the different kinds of filler we used to do the repairs.

In the mean time thanks once again for all the kind comments and interest and please keep looking because we now have a new found interest in this project again and with any luck we will get back to her soon.
