Hmm. Tough to tell from the trailer. Seems a bit...eh...unsubtle, as mentioned above. CGI is pretty obvious too, but nobody's making films like the old 50s and 60s air combat films, and frankly, it's probably a hell of a lot safer to do a film with CGI planes than actual ones. I just wish that CGI was used more to ENHANCE rather than to CREATE.
The acting...I can't really tell. I mean, I tend to set a somewhat lower bar for modern air combat films set during WWII. Memphis Belle, for example, is a nice film, if again somewhat unsubtle. The HBO movie on this from the mid 90s was also about as subtle as a jackhammer.
I guess when I say it's "unsubtle" what I really mean is that it doesn't seem to be acted in a natural fashion. It's larger-than-life and the statements are all these grand, inspiring statements...that are trying very very hard to be grand and inspiring. That kind of rubs me the wrong way, even though I've kind of come to expect it with WWII films.
Anyway, I'll probably catch this on Netflix rather than see it in the theaters.
