TOS Phaser Rifle part ID please!

Heck, even earlier than that. The phaser rifle was built in '65, and there's no telling how old any "found parts" might have been.
Does anyone know for sure WHO made the phaser rifle? I don't recall ever seeing any information from the usual sources about that particular piece. Laser pistols, communicators, and tricorders were all made by Wah, and the studio prop guys made the series phaser pistols, but what about the rifle?
Could it have been a rental from somewhere else? That might explain why it doesn't seem to fit, style-wise, with anything else Wah Chang or Matt Jeffries designed and why it only showed up in one episode. It's always looked a lot more Lost In Space than Star Trek to me...

Was never able to confirm this. But I heard the Phaser Rifle was produced in a shop down in San Diego during the making of the Outer Limits.
We know a couple of creatures from the Outer LImits appear in The Cage. So maybe it's true.
I was told this by this old timer I worked with for a short period in SD. I was working on building one when this guy piped up that he had worked on it. back then.

Cool info!
A friend of mine provided me with some pretty cool reference
materials when I did the masters for the kit that never happened
a few years back. From what I understand, it was indeed
a rental prop.
I really dig that piece, and plan to use the masters I created
to produce an accurate kit of it in the next year or so
