I'm in the process of accumulating the parts I need to do a scratchbuild on this prop and I need help identifying a part.
Please use your imagination and tell me what I could use here instead of a machined part. I was thinking a part from a broom, weedeater, feather duster......... I am just drawing a blank and any help would be great.

If there's anything that I have learned about Star Trek TOS, it's that EVERYTHING was a found item! Altered maybe, but none the less, FOUND!

If enough people look for this, I'm sure it will surface.

I'd like to get an authentic p2 muzzle what should I be looking for.
while we're at it how about the side knob. The main body isn't exactly a sterling or a luger is that a found item?...and the grip?

I really think it's a feather duster, I remember pulling feathers out of one when I was a kid that looked like that. Now even if I am right do they still make them like that now?

Skyvader, nice hijack!:rolleyes

Not Really. I was being sarcastic.

A light saber is a flash tube with some wiperblades & a calculator strip. A trooper blaster is a sterling with found parts attached, Solo blaster, Obi saber...I think you get my point.

Can Star Trek TOS props really be labled "All Found Parts"? Mabey a few parts. Slot car wheels, Radio grill, Twist locks, but come on there's a distinct difference.

There's a very real possibility that the part you seek was manufactured by the prop maker.

A trumpet mute, maybe?

How big would this piece be?

The phaser nozzle is widely thought to be a binoculars eyepiece, but nobody has yet IDd one.

The word "dunsel" figures in the episode "Ultimate Computer", where Commodore Wesley refers to Kirk as "Captain Dunsel", and Spock explains that "dunsel" is a word used by midshipmen at Starfleet Academy to refer to a part which has no useful purpose.

This may be way off but i have an extending pole for a painting roller and at the mid section theres a part you twist to release and lock the the extending portion that looks remarkably like that

This is the type of thing i mean

Assuming the HMS kit is accurate, the piece is 1-1/2" diameter at the small end, 2-1/8" at the large end, and 3-1/4" long.

Really ? wow i might be onto something then that's about same size as the part i was thinking of.
It tapers, obviously has the holes in the ends already, and the ridges running up the sides.
Now i wonder if i can find one with the right ridge pattern.

Yes defstar, you just might. I willl check the paint extension handles while I'm at work today. I work at Home Depot so it will be easy. Will let you know what I find out!!

Watson, we have a lead!
