TOS-era Miranda

I love that ship. When I first saw Reliant crossing the screen way back when, she stuck in my heart and she's been there ever since. I'm just happy that she got as much screen-time as she did - do you think that Minor and Jennings thought she'd see so much screen time in all those movies and TV shows?

I built the Ertl kit and I love it. I got to thinking, what would she have looked like in TOS-era? I've seen some conjectural designs (such as Surya and several others) but I thought I'd try my hand at designing one.

I kitbashed the PL 1/1000th E, building up the rear 'deck' with sheet plastic. I liked how it turned out and so later I decided to go a little bigger and kitbash an old AMT E. (the one I used was made before Ertl entered the picture - I like the plastic the old ones were made of as well as the B/C decks.)

Here's the PL version:

And just for the pure heck of it.

Again it's only my interpretation B)

That would be the idea, Pauley... :lol

Dave, buddy... you know, it doesn't matter how many times I look at either one (the PL or AMT), I never tire of seeing these ol' beauties. Then again, I have the same sort of admiration/affection for this style of ship as you do, aside from the Constellation Class, heh heh.

Although I've said it before, I feel it deserves to be said again: great job on both, my friend. You really make me want to do something of the sort. Kudos to you. :D

Really nice job.. I saw someone do an Ertl version of the same thing about 15 years ago, all they did was make the regular Constitution class warp pylons stick out of the bottom of the primary hull, no build up above the hull. Looked very TOS, very simplistic. Yours is much more detailed.

Thanks a bunch, guys.

I'm kinda happy with how they turned out, but I prefer the way the PL conversion turned out better.

I wouldn't have thought it but the angle of the saucer edge ends up having a BIG effect on the final appearance

So I have to ask... is this purely for your own enjoyment, or are you going to make any conversion kits for the rest of us?

That's gorgeous. I love the Miranda class.

There sorta was a Miranda class already, it was the Federation Transport Tug, same nacelles underneath design, but with a big plate for pulling these long tubular containers. I used to have the miniature years ago, and always pretended it was an early Miranda class.

I absolutely love your take on that ship, and the top mounted deflector is cool as hell.
