TOS Cylon Basestar - basic construction

Hey folks!

I stared researching the Cylon Basestar, thought it would be a great idea to build one and then struggled on some basic questions before even getting into some detail.

There are some quite good references on how this thing was built, but I've tried to measure the photos for proportions for some time now. Every time I think: Yeah - that's it! I put my blueprint layer on another photo and ... still not it...

My calculations so far:
Diameter of inner tube is 22% of diameter of the 2 "dishes".
Height of the inner tube is 30% of diameter of the 2 dishes.
The dishes are positioned on the inner tube at height: 29% 42% 29%

Can someone confirm or prove me wrong?

At least one or two members here have done this they should post when they see this hopefully

Get some known kit parts & use those for equating your dimensions.
You will not do it any other way.
Also the base of this model is from an acrylic film reel.
You may have better luck finding a 35mm film reel.

HaHa! They look like film reels but they were custom made acrylic rings. The BaseStar was roughly 3 feet in diameter.

There are some members who have built these before and have very accurate info on them. Do a search on the forum and then give a try contacting those folks.
I'd like to think they would love to give advice to another ambitious builder.
