This week we presented our costume group to the Toronto Maple Leafs. We were contacted by them to produce costumes of Batman, Darth Vader, Elvis and a Female Character which for now will remain secret...but not for much longer if you watch the Maple Leaf Games... Considering my entire family consists of die hard 'Leaf' fans this was a huge honor for us...and one we were proud to take on.
After meeting with the senior staff of the TML, we decided that costumes based or inspired by these characters would be a lot more fun...so, in the spirit of the Toronto Hockey Club colors...everything became blue and white.
This presentation was given in private at the Air Canada Center to an NHL committee consisting of Clif Fletcher and Gary Bettmen. Here's a shot of the costumes on the big auditorium screen...
The Vader spin off was made from blue leather with white stitching...All typical black leather was replaced by blue. The body armor also all blue and detailed with form fitted TML logos. Below we have Jonathan/Devil in the Pale Moonlight as my trusty sidekick....Thanks again for your help my friend.
This helmet was my first real crack at electrical work..wiring in the voice changer was new ground for me but...was much easier than I thought...I butchered the Optimus Prime helmet and used that voice changer and microphone...worked like a charm.
The chest and belt boxes were custom made with sandwiched in clear logos that were back lit with blue lights. The belt boxes were core molded hockey pucks...again, trying to stay in theme with the sport.
The helmet...now go easy on me because I didnt realize how the dome was set up. It was mounted way too high, and something that's already been corrected. The face was sculpted onto one of their goalie masks in an effort to maintain that Hockey vibe...and the grill mounted right into pre sculpted channels created for it.
We had a blank saber made from www.ultrasabers.com, great people to deal with BTW...whcih we totally customized. It featured 2 contoured translucent maple leafs and was detailed to look like a hockey stick hilt. Very cool accessory....
All capes and robes were made from hockey jersey materials...blue on the outside and white for the linings and of course...detailed with TML logos on the back as well.
Next is our Batman spin off....more of a Robin considering the small eye mask but cleverly customized with the Hockey Players uniform details.
First, the white undersuit is a generic fitting suit made from 2 layers of lycra and meant to fit a wide range of people so dont worry about the baggy knees.
None of the armor is glued down to the undersuit. It's strapped on with white strip hooks and held together with a blue lace..again, much like players uniforms.
The legs are held up by suspenders and laced on the inner thigh...very neat set up..
The chest features hockey jersey material on the upper torso area outlined in blue lace then fitted with a cool TML silicone logo. The cape is held on by TML resin logos cast with bolts into them which screw into counter sunk bolts fused to the silicone torso. The cape weighs about 12LBS so the cape clips are really heavy duty...and work like a charm.
We scratch built hockey blade fin armor and pouder coat cast them in semi rigid resin.
The suit is finished off with generic begins style boots, keaton gloves and the same jersey type material for the cape..with logo on the back as well..
Lastly...Elvis...oh and what fun he was....
The suit is made up entirely of white leather with hand punched and sewn blue bling...
A fun part of this suit is the rubber wig...as requested by the client......and was a lot of fun to sculpt.
Elvis aint Elvis without his 'Blue Suede Shoes'...Perty arnt they...
Above when I said bling...I also meant 'Bling'..They're hard to photograph because the tiny LED's flash and blink quickly but look on the arm..
And just like all the rest...the TML logo on the back cape....
The cape is removable so it can be worn as just a jacket but it's loads more fun with the cape...LOL...The only thing we didnt make on this suit were the glasses. Even the scarf was made from older 'found' fabric and stitched up.
My brother dug this suit so much that when I had him in for a test fitting...I couldnt get him out of it...
Wig was still untrimmed and not painted..
Damn he looked good in that!
We have more outfits for them and once we 'can'...we'll show them too. In the meantime to see them in action I suggest you catch the games...starting Monday the 22nd...
Go Leafs Go!
Told ya it was 'Pic Intense'...
