Tordoc's SS ROTJ AT-ST WIP

I just got started on my Nice-N Models ROTJ SS AT-ST. While at first glance this appears to be a great casting, in truth it's turning out to be quite a challenge to build. The parts fit is excellent, but some parts have lots of bubbles, cracks and fissures while others have pieces malformed on so thin that they break from gentle handling. At first I thought some of the guns were missing from my kit. I emailed Steve but got no response. I later found that they were indeed in the kit, but broken into tiny bits at the bottom of a parts bag. The main guns looked weird after I carefully sanded the flashing off them and I wasn't satisfied with final results so I built my own out of brass and aluminum tube. I used guitar string ($10) in place of the supplied resin hoses as they were in the same rough shape as the supplied guns. I added some greeblies to spruce up the engine compartment. I'm learning a lot from this kit and it's going to built up into quite the impressive display piece. Here are some pics (sorry for the blurred ones) that show my progress including all the Bondo I used. I haven't primed and resanded yet. The legs are next.

Ill be building one of these very soon, so its nice to see somebody going through it all, i second the nice work on those guns...very neat indeed!

Yes, nice :)
But i think pretty normal clean-up and bondo works for a garage kit.
Looking forward to start mine :)

Nice job on the Guns and the guitar strings upgrade!!!!
I will do the same on mine.

Here's what it will look like. This is the final pose. The red block will be a fallen tree in a diorama. It's just pieced together now and not yet glued in place. I need to find a suitable base to attach the legs to before I fix the legs, body and head in place. I still need to find the appropriate color, although the primer doesn't look too far off.

Not so much backwards but the legs are hyperextended when posed like this.. maybe it needs to drop a dookie. :lol

Not meaning to poke any fun Tordoc, just looks "unique" :)

I always thought this was a cool look....

Nah, the legs are on the correct sides. Just need to rotate the knee's
to the rear. Remember, it's refered to as a 'Chicken' walker.:)

Another good idea would be to pin every joint you feel you can get
away with. Don't want it to be too fragile. I feel that the joint with the most stress is probly the lower ankle. It'll also be the easiest since you
can just drill up through the bottom of the foot.

Thanks for the advice guys. Everything is pinned, just not glued. I wanted a more uprighjt look but it does look a bit nobbley kneed. :)

Make the legs longer (extend them more), set the head higher. Otherwise the head might look too big. It is more sturdy too.
