Top Gun 3-D, the planned sequel and questioning their release

I don't see why it would be in bad taste and since when do the studios care about that kind of thing? They just don't see the dollar signs now.

That's good news on the sequel, bad news on the 3D version. Unless the 3D version was bad anyway. I love Top Gun. Unless the 3D really added to the flight combat scenes there probably isn't a need for it.

If they could do it realistically then I'd watch it. I think in the original they would have been grounded in the first ten minutes of the movie! Plus let's get some real Migs in on this movie. There are enough friendly former Soviet countries around now that finding Migs to fly for a movie should be easy.

Watched the 3D conversion recently and it didn't add a damn thing. And it is not like they did a bad job.
The 2.5 hr making-of was better than the film itself :p

The film turns 30 and apparently the folks at IMDB can't count:

It has since been changed, but not fast enough.

I saw the 3D version. Top Gun always has been and always will be my very favorite movie of all time. Is it great cinema? Nope. Is it art? Nope. Is it fun and entertaining? Yup.

Seeing it in 3D didn't really seem to change much. The only time you really noticed it was in the dogfights and stuff; even then it was more subtle than most 3D conversions.
