Tony Stark's Cellphone/PDA by Propalooza PROTOTYPE PICS ***post #18***

Working on a couple of screen displays to jazz it up somewhat, interested in how you would light it up as there isn't any room for electronics unless you wouldn't mind seeing the wires.

I just want mine like the static prop. Thanks for tackeling this propalooza!

Yes, in some caps the corners are rounded and some are square. I personally like the rounded corners. It looks more like a PDA rather than a seethrough picture frame.

I am under the belief that there is a black edging around the phone that way I can hide the wires and micro LEDs around the edging.

I'm working on making a HUD too, might be of use :)

I'll look for some pictures to back up my beliefs, but if you check out the 6th video on the website I posted before (Named: STARK PDA FINAL SHOTS) there are some shots of a rimmed plastic.

the edging on mine are solid black plexy you would have to channel that out to put whatever micro LEDS and wires in there.

The way I thought I saw it was there was no clear bit in between, does that mean you intend on filling it or am I misreading?

Sorry I don't mean to cause a stir :unsure

EDIT:
Here's a picture I just found, I know there's a page with the original prop with great images though I'll keep looking for it. Wish I had bookmarked it :unsure

There is a definite 2-layer design to this pic. It seems that there are varying designs.

Looks like the squared off corner version has the clear center portion colored in and the rounded version has the clear portion visible.

Totally agree with you, that picture however was footage with 3d layered concept art of the phone on top of it (Hence varying designs).

This was before it was cleared as a one piece edging prop, the image I have found was from the finished and finalised 3d overlay.

During filming all he had was a single piece of plexiglass the edging was overlayed and cleaned in post production.

Excited to explore forward-thinking approaches to the most quickly changing mode of computing, Perception began work designing the interface for the Stark PDA. They felt it was important to balance the complexity and sophistication of an interface that felt futuristic with elements that felt familiar and phone-like. The team worked with Director Jon Favreau and VFX Supervisor Janek Sirrs in striking that balance and were grateful for their insight and impressive attention to detail. Perception also needed to create an interface that would function properly within the context of the already shot footage of Robert Downey Jr improvising gestural inputs with a blank phone

(they found themselves designing several circular navigation devices to match his "dialing" gestures).

As with the table, Perception presented flat designs of the interfaces, as well as shots with the interface temporarily composited:

Thanks for the link, I can do a single frame PDA/Phone as seen in this image, Interesting how they added the moving graphics, but you can still see the LG logo as well as the Stark Logo before the CGI was applied.

I would be VERY simple for everyone to just paint the middle clear part with a gloss black paint. I kinda like the 2-layer design.

I can do either its really no more work then the multi level just adjusting the size in the program before sending it over to the laser. I like the multi layer as well it gives it a more depth cell phone feel to it.

Awesome, line me up for a single piece frame for sure then! :D

I thought that was pretty cool too.

Did you notice on the montage that they actually take those logos off during editing and then re-apply them later? pretty interesting.

yeah the stark logo had sort of a glow to it verses the flat image from the static prop.

Well if it's not too much work and it looks more screen accurate, then I'd be in for the single frame as well!

Can you mock that up also to see the difference?

Yeah shouldn't be a problem project jam asked about thin plexy I'll check with my supplier tomorrow one what he can get.

Heres my 2 cents worth: They have small flexible screens. If you really wanted to spend the cash, you could link one up to the flexible screen & (assuming you could make it touch & wireless) you could have a real phone like Tony Starks. I mentioned flexible screens because they're thin and could easily be slipped into the frame.

Are you planning on printing out the screen images as transparencies and integrating them into the plexiglass?
