Tomb Raider Reborn

WOW looking great, you really do pull off Laura very well, you and the outfit look amazing! cant wait to see the 2.0 dirty version. great work!!

^^^^^ Nice!

After playing the game (not done yet), I realized I really want the legit axe. You only really have the makeshift one for like, 10 minutes.

I was going to draw it up in CAD and CNC it... but if someone is making casts off a legit one... that's save me tons of time.

Almost done redoing my belt and holster... my free time is pretty much nonexistent lately, and now I have a video game to play :)

If you really want to be nit-picky, her headphones are Beats by Dre and her iPhone case is by Speck.

Let me say that I think your progress on this costume is great! I love the top you got, but might I suggest a dunk in some watered down grey dye to give it a more dulled down blue color. I have used dark blue sharpies on fabric that worked pretty well, if you're looking to darken the straps a bit.

Here is a picture of one of the pendants I make. I hand sculpted the design from clay, then made a silicone mold and cast them out of green resin. PM me if you'd like to know more about how I did it or anything else. ;)

Thank you so much everyone! Your compliments are incredibly reassuring. :)

Division 6 - Oh I hear ya on that one. I've been meaning to make arrows for years for various costumes of mine. So I'm making a quiver full of generic arrows that I can then repurpose.

Metal Wood - What a great build on the pick axe! The way this costume is working out chronologically, I started with Version 1.0 (pre-shipwreck, pre-dirty) for Momocon. In two weeks I'll be doing Version 2.0 (dirty, injured, makeshift bow), and then possibly Version 3.0 (pick axe, full bow, gun, etc.) for Dragoncon.

Lizard Jedi - Can't wait to see more pictures of your costume. :) I'll keep my ear/eye out if I see any good axe builds (though the one Metal Wood linked above looks awesome).

Cesquared - Despite my perfectionist status, even I have my limits on screen accuracy. :p However, since I'm also doing this thread as a resource to anyone who wants to do a Lara Croft costume, thanks for identifying what headphones are in the game. :) (I just bought some cheap ones from Walmart as I don't plan on ever using them again, even for Lara, as from here on out, I'm gettin' dirty!)

JennCroft - That means alot coming from you, as I personally hold you as one of the best Lara Croft costumers out there (truly! I've had your TR costume pictures saved in my reference folder since I started this project. :) ). I've been wondering about doing a dye job on the tank top or if dirtying it up would suffice to take down the blue. (That's what Version 1.0 was for, to see how the whole ensemble looked on camera before I started adding the final touches.) I'm also debating dying the pants darker, or again, if the dirt will take care of that. It's hard to tell what colour the pants are as they appear to change colour in the game based on lighting. What colour would you say they are?

Nice pendant! A friend of mine says he's carving a pendant for me out of jade (and people say I go all out! :p ), but I'm not sure if he'll have it done in time for the shoot. So I'll send you a PM so I can figure out how to make a backup necklace.

I think it's admirable the details you're going with this costume. A pendant sculpted out of real jade? Friggin awesome! And the best part about that is that you can use almost any braided cord you want for it since the jade will be heavy enough to weigh it down.

As for the pants, you may be overthinking it a bit. I do like the color you chose because it's light enough that you can darken it up with some stains and such. Like I said before with the top, using a very diluted dye can work wonders for creating "dirt" and mud stains. I've also heard of people using tea and charcoal. All of these things will darken the pants slightly. When going with a costume I err on the side of light instead of dark because light will show all of the details more than going too dark will. And for photo shoots, you can always darken things in post but you can't really lighten things very easily and have it look good.

Thanks! Due to finances and my lack of sewing skills, I'm usually limited to only making 1-2 costumes a year, so I try to do the best with them. :)

I know, right?! My eyes just about bugged out of my head when my friend told me he got jade to carve, "You're doing what?!"

I may very well be. I'm not dissatisfied with the pants. I like the colour myself. I just wasn't sure as I saw some screencaps from the beginning of the game where Lara's on the ship and they looks grey-green, then later screencaps they looked brown, and in the promo shots they look like dirty khaki. It's enough to make your head spin! But I'll see what I can do dye-wise for the shirt.

I was sent this picture by another photographer last night. I need to iron my pants pockets. :p

you think she would iron her paints?!?!?! lol sorry struck me as comical. a little trick i learned in college was to hang my cloths as close to the shower as possible, let the water rip on the hottest settings and shablamo, relatively straight lines, not perfect like with an iron, but thats the point isnt it...

Milady Nerd, V 1.0 looks good, I await v 2.0. For the pockets use a little windex and spray the pocket flaps then lightly iron them. But since you are dirtying up for V 2.0 I don't think it would matter :D

Your costume is coming together really nicely :) I'm really curious to see what your jade pendant will end up looking like as well. It looks different in renders to how it looks in-game, and the one that comes with the strategy guide is different again. Our pendant is based on the highest-quality image of it we could find in a render, so that's the design we came up with.

Yeah I still don't know why they made the strategy guide pendant so different than the renders. Cosplayers who are going for the most accuracy to the renders and screenshots will probably not use that. I got the strategy guide myself but I won't be using the pendant for cosplay stuff. Not only because of the design but the size is huge.

Greylocke - Windex, eh? I can't say I've heard of using that method before. How does that differ than just using water to iron down the pockets?

Lysia - Thank you! I'll be very curious to see how the jade one comes out as well. I'm still going to do a resin pendant just as a backup in case the jade doesn't work out for some reason. I'm having a hard time figuring out which pendant design to go with. (I probably need to pick up the strategy guide.) Which render did you go with?

Here's one more picture from Momocon that gives a better view of the actual colours of the costume (so it's not blown out or Photoshop colour-corrected). The pant colour looks fine to me, just need to dirty it up, but I'm unsure of whether the tank top is too blue.

I snapped some pix of the 3d render of Pre-Island Lara.
They have her in a rust colored pants.

If nothing else you get a look at the different pockets.

I just realized I forgot the front pockets.

That gives me enough motivation to start looking for brown pants (I was using green ones).

I have some that are similar in color already but they are pretty baggy on me (and that's saying something)

I reallllllly don't want to make custom pants, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do right?

So playing through the game more (I'm a little more than halfway), her outfit gets more beat up as the game goes along. Maybe I'll use my 2nd shirt as a ripped-to-shreds version...
