Tomb Raider Reborn

Has anyone identified the make/model of the hybrid compound-recurve she uses? It looks similar to a Browning I saw someone using at TRF, and there's so much corporate sponsorship in this game that I wouldn't be surprised if it's purchasable somewhere.

Did some looking after finishing the game tonight (LOVED IT!!!)...

Here's a pic I took of the top bow you can get in the game from the strategy guide. Obviously it's not quite a compound in this rendering,

but the overall bow is the same as the in-game model... it is very clearly a Bowtech Specialist (still available).

Sorry I haven't posted in the past few days. I've been running around like mad trying to work on this costume, plus juggling work. But I have progress updates!

- Here's a view of the quiver and my custom leather holster. (Though, since this picture was taken we have cut down the quiver by about 3 inches, spray adhesived canvas on there, sewed it on with artificial sinew, and are currently distressing it.

- Fletching is completely done!

- The bow is done! I followed the tutorial here (http://laracroftcosplay.com/HelpWithOutfits/bow.html) and it worked out quite well. Right now, I'm learning archery stances from a friend so I don't look completely ignorant on camera.

- Arrows are done! The fletching's all done. One arrowhead is done for the arrow I'll use for "shooting," and the shafts have been wood stained.

- Celtic Ruin's Costumes made me a BEAUTIFUL pendant. Look at that! (And she whipped it up super fast.)

- Still working on distressing the costume (as we're doing it in layers). Though I imagine I'm actually going to do some dirt rolling to add to it. :p Also still have a few things to get before the photoshoot this weekend. Here's to hoping I can get everything done in time!

Going to jump in and say amazing job!

I've been playing this game since and I absolutely love it - maybe in my top 3 video games. To me, the iconic prop in this game is the yellow radio. Not only is it a lifeline, it's always there, following you around. :lol

I got the art book yesterday.
All the props and costumes where purchased and scanned or photographed for the game.
They used a 21 year old gymnast for the body and someone else for the face.

The Bowtech Specialist looks spot on to what the book has.
MSRP $1049.

Ah, there. I fixed the broken photo links.

Thanks everyone for the continued support! I'm currently working with friends like mad to get this costume done for my photoshoot Saturday. Unfortunately it looks like I'm not going to have everything (like the walkie talkie). But I'll have most everything.

The pendant looks fantastic. What type of stain are you using of the arrow shafts? And what do you want them to look like? I used to work on custom muzzle loaders and when we made the ram rods we would put a mixture of cherry stain and mahogany stain 2:1 on the ram rods and then use a propane torch while they were still wet to bring out the grain more, before sanding.

Unfortunately it looks like I'm not going to have everything (like the walkie talkie).

Have you found any online retailers that carry it? I've only done a really lazy search, but it looks like ebay may be the only option.

Costume looks great, BTW!!! All I can say is get that elbow up so it's parallel to the arrow shaft. It looks a bit low in the one picture. ;)

So this morning when I got home from work I took a saw to the tree in my front yard and started working on a bow.
I wrapped about 4 (since they are a bit thick) pieces with gaffers tape.
Going for the reinforced version.

Thought I had some white cord but can't find it so I guess I'll have to hit Michael's or JoAnn's to see what I can find.

Last night I was talking to someone I know that makes arrows so I may have him make up a few custom for display.

I went to the grocery store (Raley's) and found cording there as well as some white duct tape.

Now in the few screen caps I have of the reinforced bow the additional white looks kind of like cloth or maybe even medical or sports tape hence the white duck tape but looking at a small pic in the art book it's clearly cording so it cording is, over 100 feet of it including some bits of cotton cording I found in a sewing box.

Doing some weathering at the moment then have to figure out what to do about the string in the middle since the fully modded one is red and black ,don't think i will go that far.

A bit bummed out at the moment...my big TR shoot was cancelled due to some nasty thunderstorms. Ah well. Thankfully it's been rescheduled for a few weeks from now, which gives me a chance to try to perfect the costume. So expect more pesky questions from me for the next few weeks. :p

I may have a couple teaser photos coming....(as we couldn't do the photoshoot, we still took a few shots of the costume just for reference).

Greylocke - I actually just used watered down dark brown acrylic paint and a sponge to stain the arrows.

Pinder91 - I have, but none that aren't sold out or selling them for under $50. And since I'm only using 1, that seems a bit high. (Oh, and duly noted on the elbow).

Division 6 - Are there two different types of the stick bow? (You've mentioned a reinforced bow.) A friend made my bow while I worked on the arrows - he made it with 5-6 4.5 ft. long sticks tied together with white cotton cord (from Walmart).

Does anyone know what kind of strap Lara uses for her quiver? I can't tell if it's a generic leather strap, WWII USMC M1 carbine strap, or a olive green shotgun strap.

Hm...I need to get a copy of this art book.

The reinforced bow has extra wrapping on it.

The strap on the quiver is cotton webbing.
Sometimes looks OD and other times looks brown.
You can see the texture in the images on this page.

Edit.
Just looked through all my images.
It's OD.
If you can find it I would probably go with a lighter version.

Well, although my shoot got cancelled, I still snapped a couple of quick pictures of my costume just for you guys. Now, keep in mind, the costume is NOT finished. So things to note....

- There's no dirt or blood (as we didn't do makeup due to rain).
- Thus the bandages are also clean.
- I still need to perfect my hair...I don't quite have the piecey bangs down.
- Still need to get the right length leather cord for necklace
- Still need a belt
- Need to adjust quiver. It wasn't sitting right on me.
- Still need to distress a bunch
- Going to lower pant leg to make boots appear shorter
- About to acquire walkie talkie

Now with all that in mind, go, critique! I want my costume to be as accurate as reasonably possible (well, within my budget). :)

looking really good. You going to do a scar/wound under the hole in the shirt from where the stick went thru? If you got the shanty town scene where she's fixed the wound that scar would be pretty easy to fake on the cheap.

Wes R - Yes, I will be doing a wound where she was impaled as well as alot of open wound, dried wounds, scarification, bruises, etc. once I get to the final shoot with makeup.

Haha, thanks BobbyS95!

Every time i see her swimming in something questionable with open wounds i flinch lol.

I see only one or two things I can think of, beyond the semi-untucking of pants (although, like you, I love Lara's old high tops). I'd pull the undertank up a little higher so it's a bit more visible, and I'd lower your gun belt just a little bit on the high side. It looks a bit more lopsided than it does in game. Beyond that it's about as spot on as it can be. I love it!
