Interest Tobin's Spirit Guide by Magnoli Props!

Don't worry... I'm a stickler for this kind of thing. I've already tweaked some of the RPF text to bring it more in line with the period the book should have been written. There will be no mention of Ghostbusters, marshmallow men, or any other anachronistic details that might ruin the illusion. The end result should really look like an old tome from the 1920s.
That’s reassuring, and you’ve put my fears in perfect words. The illusion of having this be an authentic book from the period is as much a selling factor as the visual appeal!

Coming from Ireland, there’s a long history with spiritualism and occult. I’m happy to start pulling some texts together. Banshees for example are one of our most famous ghost stories that I would imagine would be documented in this type of book!

12-CLASSIFYING A SPIRIT (CDI System)

As you can see, the sections are not quite uniform... which isn't a big deal, though at the moment, South America may just get lumped into a generic "Americas" or "New World" section.

If you'd like to provide an article, feel free to post and contact me via PM. This post in the original project lists a TON of article ideas to choose from: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (RESEARCH SIGN-UP POST 364!)

At this point, I just need raw text. We're estimating about 250-500 words per article, though our layout will be quite fluid, so even this has plenty of leeway (one article I have is over 1200 words, for example). Not all entries will require artwork either and we'll be doing some AI generated art, so if you can provide artwork great, but if not no biggie. If you can though, it has to be in the style of an old wood-cut or similar 19th century to early 20th century lineart suitable for black ink printing.

Let's get this project going!

Kind regards,
Indy

I think you will find an incredible source with the book "The Secret Teachings of All Ages" by Manly P Hall. Tobins Spirit guide was based on this book. It was written in 1928 , a Canadian, author, Lecturer, Astrologer and Mystic. If you sandwiched that book, you would have a very authentic guide that goes over 50 chapters , each a book in itself. The Amazon Description: " For once, a book which really lives up to its title. Hall self-published this massive tome in 1928, consisting of about 200 legal-sized pages in 11 point type; it is literally his magnum opus. Each of the nearly 50 chapters is so dense with information that it is the equivalent of an entire short book. If you read this book in its entirety you will be in a good position to dive into subjects such as the Qabbala, Alchemy, Tarot, Ceremonial Magic, Neo-Platonic Philosophy, Mystery Religions, and the theory of Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry. Although there are some questionable and controversial parts of the book, such as the outdated material on Islam, the portion on the Bacon-Shakespeare hypothesis, and Hall's conspiracy theory of history as driven by an elite cabal of roving immortals, they are far out-weighed by the comprehensive information here on other subjects."
The book is used for US Government reference by both the CIA and FBI. Crazy stuff. I am pretty sure Dan Aykroyd would give his approval for this as a partial reference. His family was seriously into this material.

I've started laying out the pages... here are a couple of teaser spread mock-ups:

This is going to be worth every penny...I must say I'm very much looking forward to actually reading it!

Would it also be perhaps cool to have a section related to Cults & Secret Societies. I’ve done some research into some cults and sects that were known to operate in this time and would have worshipped or been devoted to dark gods/demons.

For example, could get a mention of Ivo Shandor in here somehow. Remember in GB1, Spengler mentions he first found the name Ivo Shandor in Tobins Spirit Guide. I know the base text was from a 1904 book so I hope that this isn’t going to be set as publication date for this “publication” As Shandor didn’t start his cult until 1920, and wouldn’t have been doing any of his cults on the rooftop of CPW until after this time.

I would say set the books publication date as sometime in 1930-35 to allow for an entry in Shandors antics!

As for the Multi regional entities. I’m thinking stuff like the Boogey Man, Sandman, Tooth Fairies etc could be listed here…as a lot of mythical creatures that exist in nursery rhymes like those 3 have origins involving dark and mystical

I've updated the post of the table of contents: Interest - Tobin's Spirit Guide by Magnoli Props!

I'm up to 99 pages so far. At the moment there are no entries for Russia nor South America at all. So we'll need some filler for those, otherwise, I'll just lump those into other sections (Russia with Easter Europe and South America maybe as "The New World" or something like that for all the Americas). Also thinking of adding an Australian/Pacific section...

Ok guys... I've talked to Michael Bergeron, and he's happy for us to pick up the torch from his previous projects:

I'll be sending PMs out to those who offered help, but if I miss you, please drop us a line if you're interested in contributing to this project.

At the moment, I'm formatting the 1903 Encyclopedia of Superstitions that was used in the Afterlife prop and starting to make a template for adding new information in the new style. I'm estimating we'll need about 750 pages to fill this book accurately. I've already got more than enough to fill it up using the 1903 book, but as I started, I thought we might as well do a proper Tobin's along the vein of what Michael had already started, then we could just pad the remaining pages with excerpts from the Encyclopedia.

So, with that being said, and hoping I haven't bitten off more than I can chew... if you're interested in helping, post here and I'll contact you with how you can assist.

Kind regards,
Indy
Yeah you're welcome

Oh this looks absolutely wonderful, and what a great idea! I may have some stuff saved on another computer that might be worth contributing, demons/spirits stuff from old books saved from archive.org, of things that I stumbled across while on hunts for some other stuff. I'll take a browse over the weekend.
