TNG Mk VII Medical Tricorder - anything out there?

It seems that every licensee has shunned the TNG Tricorders for the more blinky MK X ones from the films/later TV series. Rodd.com offer the not-quite first season TNG model, but what's the deal with the Mk VII?

If I remember right it's Trek's longest serving Tricorder, having done 3 TV series and one film, and offered almost as many lights as the Mk X without being all pointy and weird.

Does anyone offer any kits of the Mk VII Medical? Thats one of my favourite props. Any photos? Anything? I can't be alone here...

I agree that the Mk VII is more desirable than the Mark X. To me the VII represents TNG, but the X is only associated with Voyager and the later movies.

As far as licensed versions of the Mk VII, Roddenberry.com has in the past offered kits and built replicas, mastered by Ed Miarecki. I don't know offhand if any are currently available.

My own Mk VII was built by Nicksdad and refinished by DStines... the Science version, not medical.

There is of course a Playmates toy of the Mk VII (both science and medical) but some people have redone them into decent (tho not totally accurate) replicas.

The prop is larger than the toy, and this is more noticeable on the Medical version. These pics are from a Japanese prop site.

Stapelton does a incredible piece, I don't think he offered them anymore though, I'd love to get my hands on one also, or at least a machined scanner

Ive been looking for a good version of the VII medical for a long time too. Rodd.com did have them, but havent offered them for some time. Ive been bugging them to carry it again and finally got a reply saying that they will offer it again in January of 2010. if you want one please call or e-mail Rodd.com to show them that there is interest for this piece. I would love to make it happen! I agree... The TNG styles were my favorite. Stapleton med VI is great, but its the "primitive" first season version, not the VII. As I recall he did the science version only, so you would still have to buy the medical attachment from Rodd.com to make it a medical.

Holy crap! I own the Playmates Medical Tricorder... and their standard Mark VII, as well. I USED to think that, aside from all the missing LED lights, they were pretty good. But now I see just how inaccurate the Medical Tricorder is when compared to the filming prop. :confused

The one I offered was like this one.

I'd like to do a medical VII, but the scanner would be the problem. I would want it to be metal, and that is always a pain.

Here is the VII I offered in the past. The molds are shot, but I could always cast up the master again if there was enough interest.

@ stapleton13: I am interested in a medical tricorder Mk VII. Is it possible to do one with removable sensor array to transform the medical into a science tricorder?

That would make it a latter Mark VI.

if you say so :lol, Thanks

Sorry, I am a tricorder dork. :lol This is the tricorder I am talking about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtcVA54t9gU (By latter Mark VI, I meant the youtube tricorder with more similar graphics to the Mark VII).

The front array of the Mark VII, at least any way I have seen it produced in the past, wouldn't be able to hold the medical attachment. The Mark VI can because there is some space for the scanner. Anyway, sorry for butting in, but again, I am a dork. I think I even asked Myron about this very thing ages ago.

Phase, thanks for posting those. I really should have got on board with the Miarecki kits when they were available. Dang.

I believe I had a Stapleton tric (got it through a trade):

And yeah, it was a real beaut. It wasn't cut for lights as far as I could tell (the viewscreen was though), so I ended up selling it as I couldn't imagine cutting it up to fit LEDs - the finish + graphics were way too nice. Stapleton, your work is amazing, I loved the piece. I've wanted a really good TNG Tric for years and was so pleased to get that one. I've seen your one on youtube with an actual video screen in it - that's one of my holy grails.

If there's any chance I could persuade you to make a MKVII med... Maybe get machined scanners done by one of the many machinists here?

WOW! That looks and works great.

Did you do a run of them or was that a one time deal?

Thanks

Yes thats the one I was talking about.
But I am a bit confused Mark VI with space for scanner or without. Is there a chart to see the differences?

But it would be great Stapleton13 could do a Mk VII Medical Tricorder again.
